It is probably not as bad as it looks! After 7. a3 Bxc3+ 8. Nxc3 O-O 9. Bg5 h6 10. Bh4 White has a plus because of his bishops and the pin, but it is not the end of the world.
I guess it is not played too much because it is too easy for White to play.

Hi ,
this is my first post:)

1.e4 c5 2.Nf3 Nc6 3.d4 cxd5 4.Nxd4 e5 5.Nb5 Nf6 6.Nc3 Bb4!?

Lately i m having a slight problem in ths Svesnikov variation.my friend plays the variation against me , is it a good move? can it be refuted quickly or does it take a long time before the position crumble?

Fritz gives  either 7.a3 or Bg5 is gives a very slight advantage.Then y is this move not played often in top chess instead of d6?
