I just have a few comments:  a

a) I love the Swedish Chef!

b) Mmmm  Bacon.

c)  I don't think I'd choose a last meal that would give me heartburn.  Some good old fashioned comfort food is needed at a time like that.  Either comfort food or enough absinthe to knock out a small elephant.  I need to think about that one.  (I hope I have enough time to come up with a really good one!)

Blue crabs, steamed in a boil of Old Bay seasoning, vinegar and beer, laid out on a table covered with newspapers. Put a few Labatts Blues on ice within easy reaching distance and you have a meal that will take a few hours and be worth every minute it takes to pick every morsel of crab meat. Add good friends and the evening will become memorable.

It is so difficult to say!

If it were one DISH, then I would say that a good bouillabaisse would be very difficult to beat.  I love anchovies, so very close second would be a generously garnished pisaladiere (which, contrary to the recipes you find on the web, is NOT made with tomato sauce).  Also ranking very high in my esteem, as single dishes, are choucroute garni, cassoulet, and daube de boeuf.  With any of those, I would take a nice bottle of Cote de Rhone (white with the bouillabaisse, of course, otherwise red).

Then again, one of the best dishes I've ever eaten was at a restaurant on the shores of Lake Murten: baked perch in morel sauce served over noodles.  It was heavenly.  If I could be sure of having exactly that dish again, I might prefer it to anything else.

If it were an entire DINNER, then I would ask for rare roast beef with carrots and mushroom caps baked alongside, green beans, Yorkshire pudding, and for dessert, apple pie with cheddar cheese.  With that I would take a good Burgundy.

For a single FOOD, its a close call between anchovies and blue cheese.

THEN their is boiled lobster and drawn butter.  God, I must stop!

Raw oysters and their liquor on buttered bread with a tall glass of Trois Monts!!  Stop!  STOP NOW!!!

Now that will be an interesting poll: what do you chose as death row dinner?
I stick to the sopropo filled with minced meat.

Duck and lamb cooked well can be beautiful.  I also have a real weakness for shellfish and cheeses.  Throw in a good bottle of wine...

A number of years ago, I started experimenting with Cajun cuisine, and still think a good gumbo or jambalaya would be my deathrow dinner.

A very tough question ...

There are some days when a really nice lasagne, with a lovingly prepared ragu, good creamy bechamel and plump, mpist layers of fresh egg pasta cannot be beaten.

Equally, some days cry out for a curry of some description - good and spicy with lots of ginger, garlic and fresh coriander.

Being English, I can't, of course, overlook the claims of roast beef woth all the trimmings.  And another English classic, steak and kidney pudding, has a firm place in my heart, especially when it  has been steamed twice (the pudding, that is, not my heart!).

But if I were choosing right now what my last meal would be, I would go for crispy duck pancakes, Beijing-style.

well i happen to be currently in Beijing for holiday, and just had Peking duck at a restaurant named Ya Wang, literally "Duck King", and it was fantastic  Cheesy Amazingly crisp skin and delectable fats melt in the mouth.. burp

Yesterday's dinner was grilled whole Mongolian lamb, an intimidating sight to behold, but it was also *extremely* satisfying. This is one heaven of a holiday!

I also like lasagne, curry (especially North Indian) and english style beef, so we share very similar tastes!

I am not that surprised, since this is the most famous Swedish Chef:

After about 5 weeks as a vegetarian, I tend to judge food after its effect and less after its taste. I've always been more gourmand than gourmet anyway, but after just a couple of days as a vegetarian I noticed that my health and mental alertness improved drastically - as well as my online rating, which currently is about 100 points over my previous personal record! Despite that I only play a tenth of what I used to these days.  Smiley

So far, I haven't missed meat the slightest. Especially, since I've found a vegetarian restaurant in the centre of town which serves very good asian style food with curry sauce but without meat and dairy products - though I personally haven't given up milk & cheese otherwise, but actually reduced my sugar intake considerably without really trying. Must be a side effect of the slow carbonhydrates in the veggies...  Huh

Anyway, I've found that the hunter who missed the elk was right: '-Run away, if you like, it's the sauce that's most tasty anyway!'  Cheesy

What is this?!  A vegetarian King's Gambiteer?  What is the world coming to?  Undecided

Pumpkin with salt meat, the Surinamese way, or sopropo filled with minced meat. Combine it with a djogo (1 liter bottle of Parbo Beer).
