I think 4.qc2 might run into some problems after 4...nd4

I play 4. a3 here, as the positions resulting from 4. ...d5 can be analogous to some from the Underground System, which I play with Black. Also 4. ...Bb4 and 4. ...Bc5 are taken out of the picture. I must say though that I prefer playing Black in the Sicilian than White in the English. It's all a matter of information : 1. c4 e5 and 1. e4 c5 are a kind of mutual zugzwang!

Another important move that should perhaps have been mentioned is 4. e4.
4. Qc2 is also a possibilty.

I like the idea of 4.g3 here, although I usually play it on the third move, so my opponent may be tempted to play a reversed Sicilian  Grin

A lot of strong English players will play a variety of fourth moves here.

What is your fourth move preference and why?

After playing 4.g3 for a long time, I am now playing 4.e3 as it leads to more similar of a structure to the Sicilian Kan, which I play as black.
