Black should not grab this second pawn. 8...Bxc2?!
a)9.Qxc2 Qxd4+ 10.Kh1 Qe5 11.Qb3! Nbd7 12.Qxb7 Rd8 13.Bf4 Qc5 14.Bc7 Qxc4 15.Rf4 Qc5 16.Bxd8 Kxd8 17.Rxf6 probably leads to a draw.
b)9.Nxf7 Kxf7 (Bxd1 10.Nxd8 Kxd8 11.Rxd1 Nd5 12.Re1 and White has chances to maintain some advantage) 10.Qxc2 Qxd4+ 11.Be3 and it's the usual story: Black plays too many moves with the queen. A line from a Dutch newspaper is Qxc4 12.Rf4 Qa6 13.Ra4 Bd6 14.Rxa6 Nxa6 (Herman Grooten).
Why enter such mess, if the solid 8...Bg6 is available?

The book had the effect good books usually have: it made the stupids more stupid, the intelligent more intelligent and the other thousands of readers remained unchanged.

I'm curious about the Welling pawen capture in the Ziegler Variation of the BDG. Anyone spent several months analysing this? I spent a 4NCL evening (went for a curry) and then the Sunday morning hooked on this position but am still as clear as mud as to what on earth is going on...

Any clues?

Thanks!
