The book had the effect good books usually have: it made the stupids more stupid, the intelligent more intelligent and the other thousands of readers remained unchanged.

This is a very good choice against the typical CK player who is by nature a calm person looking forward to the ending.

The Ryder Gambit version (taking with the Queen) is very dangerous for Black especially after taking on d4.

No doubt some forum members will dismiss all this as being unsound and not worthy of their attention and we should return to move 27 in the Open Lopez. However, in normal OTB games there is no means of looking things up in a database or using an engine and own resources come into play.

Maybe we start a sub-section on Opening Theory without an Engine at your Side?

Regards,

A couple of years ago i started playing gambits. I liked them for a lot of reasons the quick development and initiative. When I was looking at one of my favortie sites ChessCafe i came across the gambit cartel.

Tim McGrew loves him self some gambits and he showed the world this little studied line in the Caro-Kann

It starts: 1.e4 c6 2.d4 d5 3.Nc3 de 4.f3!?

Wait! Stop! whats going on here this goes with the rest of the crazy BDG players. Sir.Milner-Berry played this before teh BDG existed and Im sure some of you C-K players have an opinion on it. Maybe you think its trash maybe you think its annoying. I think its really fun to play and Even with the many gambits which I dont play anymore I still keep playing this one.

I would be interested in knowing what all of you thought about this try and what you think might be best for black. When I have time later I will include some of Tims Analysis.
