I think Akobian's game with DeFirmian at Foxwoods is pretty convincing that Black gets good play against the a4 advance by ...a5! and ...Bd7, putting pressure on the pawn.  He analyzed it at ICC / ChessFM and very much worth a look.  I mention it on my recent McCutcheon Webliography:

The plan with 13.a4!? seems good for white, but maybe black should play 12...b5 13.a4 bxa4 or 12...Bd7 13.a4 a5 with idea to win the pawn a4 later.

Is the "main line": 1.e4 e6 2.d4 d5 3.Nc3 Nf6 4.Bg5 Bb4 5.e5 h6 6.Bd2 Bxc3 7.bxc3 Ne4 8.Qg4 and now 8...Kf8 ?   Wink

Now the main line is: 9.Bd3 Nxd2 10.Kxd2 c5! (or 10...Nd7 11.Nf3 c5) and:

A) 11.Nf3 c4! (11...Nc6!? 12.dxc5! Qa5 13.Qf4 Qxc5 14.Nd4 Bd7 15.Rhb1 b6)12.Be2 Nc6 and most moden plan is 13.a4!? or 11...Qa5 old plan (Almasi in Nic YB 66)

B) 11.h4 Qa5 and now White must go to A) line with 12.Nf3 since 12.Rh3 cxd4 13.Qxd4 Nc6 or 13.Rg3 Qxc3+ 14.Ke2 Rg8 with good position for Black

Sorry to be sidestepping your question, but 6.Be3 currently seems to be white`s most dangerous line.

Hi !

Does anybody know good theory for white against the Mc Cutcheon after 8.Qg4 Kf8 in the mainline ?
