@ notyet, Yes, at the beginning of each chapter an annotated game is presented that features one of the thematic lines for the variation under discussion.  For example in the Baguio Revisited Chapter the Game Korchnoi-Karpov with black playing an early b5 is featured.  After the annotated game is the section 'Looking a Little Deeper" where the theory is explained with branches, and such.

The recurring themes I notice in this book is White pushing d5 at various moments, black playing f5 a la Dutch, or black lashing out with b5.  I guess these are some of the most common ways to unbalance the position in the Nimzo.  Overall, there are some ideas that I'm not so hot on (4.e3 Ne4 and 4.Nf3 Ne4) but the rest I like a lot.  Really I just wanted to get a book that had some new and interesting positions for me to look at and analyze, and this one fit that bill perfectly.  It gets the creative juices flowing!

Are there any complete, annotated games in this book?

Thanks

Here's Palliser's conclusion about the Topalov Gambit:

"5...c5!? offers Black good, active play after both 6 Bg5 and 6 dxe6.  Accepting the gambit with 6 dxc6 is critical and needs more testing, although it is not at all easy for White to develop and consolidate.  Much more critical is 6 dxc5 which fortunately isn't the first move many opponents will probably analyse over the board.  Then 6...Nxd5 leaves Black a little worse and so 6...exd5 may objectively be the best choice.  If that's so, and much does remain to be discovered after 5...c5!?, then the Topalov Gambit sadly isn't really a gambit but just a tricky move order device!"

Does Palliser actually think the Topalov Gambit is sound, or is it more like one of those S.O.S. books that relegate the critical line to a footnote?  I've had fun with the Topalov gambit in Blitz games, but I'm not sure I'd play it in anything else.

Think it depends how well these ones sell, life being what it is. If they go OK though then yes I think it may develop into a series.

The variations were chosen based on 1 or more of the following criteria:

1) Moves that create complex, original positions full of razor-sharp tactics and rich positional ideas where creative, attacking play is rewarded; moves which are new, rare or very fresh, leaving plenty of scope for research.

2) Moves that are highly ambitious; ones which aim for total domination.

3) Moves that have been previously ignored, discarded or discredited by theory, perhaps unfairly so or maybe for the wrong reasons.

4) Moves that are visually shocking; moves which seem to contadict the laws of the game.

Get this book, it is awesome!

(Ward: 1,4,11,12,16 Palliser: 2,5,6,8,9,15,17 Emms: 3,7,10,13,14)

This is a nice, fat book (272 pages) with lots of interesting ideas! As one can see, some chapters are geared towards white, while others for black, but useful for either side, really.  They make no claims about the ultimate soundness of some of these; they are just trying to arm players with some fresh new ideas in order to cause difficult problems to solve for the opponent...most of these lines create very interesting positions, and I'm really looking forward to digging into this one!

Hi everybody.
Does anybody have any info on the new Everyman Nimzo book, Dangerous weapons? Apparently Emms, Palliser and Ward are the authors!
