	There is also the german GM Georg Meier: http://www.chessgames.com/perl/chessplayer?pid=95763 The rubinstein french is his main defence against 1.e4.

	Though he's no top-GM I regularly check Moskalenkos' Games with the french. You'll get the impression that "French Defense" is the wrong name, and it should be called "French counter attack"

	ELO 2060. Corr.: 2190. Which casts doubts if I ever knew what I was doing. At least on the Board.

	I wouldn't count on Carlsen. Here is what he says in the latest CBM about his game with Karjakin: "The French Defence. In my younger years I used to consider it at best a second-rate opening, and I once even lost a bet with one of my friends, and as a result had to play 1... e6 in all my games with Black in a Super-GM tournament. Fortunately my friend was greedy, and took money instead. I believe that both 1...c5 and 1...e5! are better choices, but since I desperately wanted to win this game (I was trailing the leaders Kramnik and Shirov by 1 point at this stage) I decided to try something new."

	There`s also a guy called Carlsen who played the french recently. Hope we can see more of that.

	Going back to the past - Botvinnink, Bronstein and Petrosian used to give this line a go. And what about Nigel Short who gives this a whirl. Vaganian, Korchnoi, Uhlmann are obvious role models. Occasionally Jan Timman. Other sometime Frenchies although admittedly not for a while- Ivanchuk Shirov, Anand and Radjabov (three of these guys beat Kasparov with black - no prize for guessing who didn't!!) M. Gurevich, Lputian Volkov and Jusupov are the main men nowadays. Finally Nakamura seems to be having a blast with the French recently. Good luck Andrew

	Really. Ulibin's played some beautiful games, especially against the Tarrasch. saubhikr - thanks for your comments. Afraid it's not my main choice, but it has always been an opening I've been interested in.
