well, I was wondering for instance what lines he covers and how he can make a 304-pages long book on the Philidor!

he covers everything
part 1 = 1 e4 e5 2 Nf3 d6 - all lines (apart from those in part 3) - in particular 3 d4 exd4
part 2 = 1 e4 d6 2 d4 Nf6 - planning 3...e5 or 3...Nbd7 (and 4...e5)
part 3 = 1 e4 e5 2 Nf3 d6 3 d4 Nf6 4 Nc3 Nbd7 (or the same position via 1 e4 d6)

and yes it's 304 pages

Under 'Product Details' in the link you give, it says 192 pages - where did you see 304?

True! But at everyman's page: http://www.everymanchess.com/display.php?id=294
it says 304 pages.
So, who is telling the truth?

Hi to all!

I have seen a forthcoming book by EveryMan about the Philidor:
http://www.amazon.com/Philidor-Files-Detailed-Coverage-Dynamic/dp/1857444361

On everyman site it is said that the book is 304 pages long!
Any info on the booK?

what do you want to know? Smiley

Calling a series Chess Explained, as Gambit have, is a little exaggerated too...

Does anyone know if an English translation of Seel's "Geheimwaffe Philidor" book is due anytime soon?
Thanks

Anyone who thinks the Philidor is not dynamic should check out Christian Seel's "Geheimwaffe Philidor" (Geheimwaffe = secret weapon).

It doesn't really require much knowledge of German and is a magnificent piece of work, albeit somewhat over-optimistic in places about Black's chances.

You'll have to help me, Eddie. What are these refutations?!

I have to deliver by the end of April, so I suppose you can hope to pick it up in the autumn.

I think it was popular long before that - I promised myself half way through his book on the Benoni that if John Watson said one more time that something or other was an example of Benoni dynamism then I was going to hurl his book out of the window and take up the Slav. It was a promise I had to break many times.

(and frankly I thought calling the Botvinnik English 'dynamic' was pretty rich, but I suppose 'The Relatively Dynamic and Not That Theoretical English' would have been a fair enough title.)

The title became popular because the (genuinely) Dynamic English was such a roaring success.

John, when can I look forward to picking up my copy of your book on the Berlin?

Btw, I was wondering what a book on the Berlin would look like. Does it go a a bit like: "Black swaps off queens into a dynamically balanced middle game, where both sides can play for the advantage. This Ke8 line used to be considered great for black - but eventually it got refuted. This Bd7 line was all the rage for a while, but now White has found a way to bust it. Be7 was good for a bit, but now Mickey has duffed that up too. Now Ne7 looks like a good bet."

Am I the only one who's bored with every opening being 'dynamic'? What about a book called 'the Statically Advantageous But Not That Dynamic xxxxxx'?

In fact, that would be perfect for my next effort on the Berlin. I shall suggest it to Jacob A.

LOL.....good luck getting that one pass the marketing people  Grin

"Philodor" and "Dynamic"

Huh

Isn't that an oxymoron?  Grin
