My issue with Dvoretsky is that I have the CD version and whenever I run it my computer crashes.  Undecided

Thanks DD. I had another look at Dvoretsky's Endgame manual which is still (undeservedly) gathering dust on my shelf and thought I may as well hold off on the Silman until the second print run is out. It's not like I  need any more chess books this instant... Embarrassed

slates,

I just got notice from Amazon (US) over the weekend that my copy had shipped.  Since I have had this on order for over a month, I am assuming that they have just gotten the second printing.  When I receive it I will check and post here.

I read over 150 pages of it yesterday. I can't say that I was impressed. I prefer chapter sectionings by theme rather than rating and the content wasn't better presented than other endgame books.

Don't check me with no lightweight stuff.

I was surprised to see that the Square of the pawn was introduced as late as 1400-1599. It's a fundamental knowledge and very easy to grasp. I would have put it in the 1000-1199 chapter.

I just received notification from Amazon that my copy has shipped.   My understanding is that the first printing sold out quite quickly.  I'm hoping that my copy is from the second printing as I heard Silman mention on chess fm that the second printing will contain the correction of a number of small errors and typos.  Though probably not all of them.

I just wondered if your copy had the errors or if you got lucky with a reprint?  I'm about to order from the UK but I imagine I'll end up with an 'old' copy from stockists over here, if indeed a second run has even taken place yet....

I got my copy on Friday and I must say this book is very good done: easy to use, very good explanations, right to the point and not (as) boring as an endgame book can be. I think I will eventually be able play the endgame at a more decent level  Wink

Somehow it's fitting that the URL misspells errata.

I think I would hold off buying this book until I was sure I was getting the new printing (edition?).  Silman has published a lengthy errata sheet on his website and some of the errors are not so small.

Every solution has, embedded within it, the next major problem.

@ nyoke

and for your information "de denksportkampioen" is cheaper than "Marchand".
