Hi,
I am wondering what would be best in the main line polar bear system when black plays 8 . ... e6 avoiding a main idea for white the f4- f5 break. GM Danielsen is not (yet) commenting this move in his videos.
The line goes:
1.f4 d5 2.Nf3 g6 3.g3 Bg7 4.Bg2 Nf6 5.0-0 0-0 6.d3 c5 7.c3 Nc6 8.Na3
8...e6
-Qc2 or Qe1 with the idea e2-e4 or
-Rb1 with the idea b2-b4?
-Or something else.
What do you think?
Greetings
Ralf

What is happening with videochess.net? They wrote their e-book could be available against the end of the (this?) year but till now, no new information about it.
Some days ago, I wrote an e-mail to them asking which datum we could expect for this e-book to be out but no answer  Cry
Does someone know more?

What about:
1. f4 d5 2. Nf3 Bg4 3. e3 Nd7 4. h3 Bxf3 5. Qxf3 e5 $6 6. Qxd5 Qh4+ 7. Kd1 O-O-O 8. fxe5 Qe7 9. Qa5 Kb8 10. d4
Nxe5 11. Bd2 this looks pretty solid to me for white. Black still has to prove his compensation for the pawn and the bishop pair. I do not understand why Kramnik played 10 Nc3 and 11 Qa4.

Or refuse the gambit with 6. Nc3 c6 7. d3 Ngf6 8. Bd2 Qb6 9. O-O-O. White does not have a lot, but still the bishop pair. I think this would now nicely fit Kramniks style.

In one of his videos, Danielsen quickly says he analysed this variation with fritz and he doesn't think it s good for black.
But unfortunately, he doesn t say more about it..  Cry

If you follow his variation you have to like with white : 1.f4 d5 2.Nf3 Bg4 3.e3 Nd7 4.h3 BxN 5.QxB e5!? 6.Qxd5 Qh4+ 7.Kd1 0-0-0

I looked to all of them. Great, to hear a specialist talk! I hope to see much more in the future. By the way, is he still planning to write a book about 1. f4? I still am looking forward to that.

As exponents of 1.f4 know, GM Henrik Danielsen is one of the leading experts in developing theory and playing 1.f4. Now he has started a series of video lectures about this opening and you can follow those on www.videochess.net .

I would recommend that you start by watching these vidoes first:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OFfQASWu-Bk

and

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RoOHRP44ub4

These are sort of an introduction to the various replies to 1.f4. His name "The Polar Bear System" refers to 1.f4 as a system for white.

Then there are vidoes up focusing on white's answer to 1.f4 d5 2.Nf3 Bg4

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UJ4d3d-yGRc

And then you can follow the links for #2-#7.

GM Danielsen will then add further videos in the near future and I will probably be adding some as well as Henrik is my good friend and has taught me some ideas and I have played some games with 1.f4. If you have any questions please fire away and lets make this thread a forum to exchange ideas in the Bird/Polar Bear System.

regards,

Ingvar Johannesson(FM),
Iceland
