Perfect for playing for the win with the draw in hand. Seems to be a good choice in matches.

At the moment, I don't think white has any advantage as Kramnik continues to demonstrate the soundness of Black's game. I think Topalov would have tested this if there was any realistic plan to put on the pressure.

5 Be7 main line - totally sound, although not that easy to play Black unless you are a Kramnik. Leko couldn't do anything v Kram or Anand.

Bd6.....leads to a livelier game and is probably more orientated for a winning attempt.

5 nc3 can lead to an interesting game for white but theoretically doesn't promise much

3 d4 once Black made the Bd6 pawn sac work made many a white player give up on this line. Anand tried this against Ivanchuk and Shirov and didn't get anywhere with his latest idea.

5 qe2  can be dangerous as Spassky and Capablanca played it with success. It doesn't really offer much

4 nxf7 not quite enough though very dangerous for the unprepared.

To answer your question, worth playing full time because you'll get your line at least 80% of the time and it's a big test for 1e4 players. I don't know if it's too solid for a winning attempt but  if you play the PEtroff at least you can rely on it and are unlikely to face a theoretical novelty which radically alters the assessment of the position unlike the najdorf.

I predict a rise in games in 2 Bc4 transposing into the Bishops's opening. I'd love to predict a Kings gambit rise but with computers it's less likely !

What do you think?  How does it compare to 2...Nc6?

Thanks!
