TJ, have you had a chance to record anything about the KG? I loved the RG videos on Google...just found them the other day from a link on your website. I've been playing RG it with some success, but then again I'm a patzer playing against other patzers.

Well, sooner or later I'll get around to doing some more vids - it's mostly a matter of getting the energy to actually do it...

Thanks! Nice to have an option in case it turns out I've been ****** by the ***** at video-capture...

At my high school we make our own instruction videos for the intranet and other computer systems.
At first we used CamStudio which is freeware and alright.
Now we use Captivate which is really good.

Both programs are on the wikipedia list.

Thanks for the suggestions, I considered getting one of these - until I saw the price, $300 is a bit steep for a project mostly done for fun...  Undecided

I think I'll try 'SnagIt' - anyone here who has used this?

Tartakower's "Bréviaire des Echecs" contains quite a few 19th century King's Gambit games, one of which was played by no-other than Count Leo Tolstoï. Nothing to do with the new-fangled "hypermodernerei" (Alekhine's sarcastic term) which XT indulged in himself.

There are loads - freeware and open source too!

The term you need to search for is screencasting.  There is a list here:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_screen_recording_software

Also an introduction here:

Hello everyone,

Sifting thru the threads I’ve noticed there seems to be quite a bit of interest in the King’s gambit. It also appears that many of you have played this for a while and even teach it to your students. I was wondering if there was a thread for those of us just starting out with the KG explaining the themes or ideas of the opening or the things to watch out for if the opponent plays non-book moves. Do any of you KG’ers have any notes/write-ups/pamphlets on the KG that you’d share with us patzers just starting out? I’m thinking about purchasing the Fascinating KG but would like something else for now so I can get used to the basics before I shell out big bucks for the book (sorry Thomas).

Well, the best advice for a KG newbie would probably be to go through some commented KG games - but apart from specialised books on the KG I'm not so sure where to find them. Best of e.g. Bronstein and Spassky should have some and also the oldtimers like Tschigorin, Marshall, Spielmann, Tartakower are likely to give a few KG among their best games, check your local library...

Danielsen talked me into making some videos for 'videochess', which would've contained some games and tips on the KG and RG...

But it's a week ago since I ordered the necessary program for recording one's screen from www.video-capture.info - but maybe it's some kind of internet scam, as they haven't emailed me the (considerably overpriced!) 1 MB program yet and they don't reply when you write to them...  Angry

Anyone who knows of any alternative program for windows that would allow one to record the screen?
