5.g3 fxg3 6.0-0 gxh2+ (d5 7.Bxd5 Nf6 might be more precise) 7.Kh1 d5 8.Bxd5 (8.exd5 Bf6 9.d4 Ne7 10.Ng5 Bf5! 11.Nc3 Bg6 12.Bf4 0-0) Nf6 9.Bxf7+ (9.Nxh4 Nxd5 10.exd5 Qxh4 -+) Kxf7 10.Nxh4 Rf8 (maybe Re8 ?) 11.Qf3 Kg8 12.d3 is equal according to Estrin, a quite disputable verdict.
I have copied these lines from Alföldy's 1970 booklet Gambit Eröffnungen and seem to remember, that Estrin/Glaskov's later work on the King's Gambit also mentions them. They probably stem from ancient sources like De Bilguer and Colijn.
In my opinion this form is highly dubious. The Vienna version 2.Nc3 Nc6 3.f4 exf4 4.Nf3 Be7 5.Bc4 Bh4+ 6.g3 might be correct though.

The book had the effect good books usually have: it made the stupids more stupid, the intelligent more intelligent and the other thousands of readers remained unchanged.

Advice on King's Gambit Cunningham defense please

Hi everyone I had a question on the King's Gambit Cunningham defense which goes 1.e4 e5 2.f4 exf4 3.Nf3 Be7.  I know in the line 4.Bc4 Bh4+, white can do well with 5.Kf1, where white's inability to castle is made ok by black's lack of proper development.  But I like to castle.  A friend introduced me recently to the Cunningham gambit which after 4..Bh4+ plays 5.g3 fxg3 6.0-0 - Here black can either play 6..gxh2 where white then plays 7.Kh1, or black plays 6..d5 and white replies with 7. Bxd5.  Does anyone have any advice on this sharp line?  My King's Gambit books merely mention the gambit without going too deep into analysis.  I know its sharp but is it sound?  If not, what is black's best defense? This is one crazy line!
