Nothing in Raetsky's "English...e5" either.  Black's system reminds me of the system Taylor recommends for White playing the Bird against the Sicilian, but none of his games go into the Botvinnik set-up.

For what it's worth, I cast my "vote" for Q-side expansion, too.  It looks like it'll come easy.  The reason I like the Botvinnik system is that it stabilizes the center for wing expansion.

Maybe 9.Nd5 is too early. I have played this once as Black and clearly remember, that I had no idea what to do with that bishop on d8. I suggest 9.Rb1 to take the initiative on the queen's wing.

The book had the effect good books usually have: it made the stupids more stupid, the intelligent more intelligent and the other thousands of readers remained unchanged.

In a recent rapid game of mine, I once again became aware of a little hole in Tony's superb "Dynamic English":

1.c4 e5 2.g3 Nc6 3.Bg2 f5 4.Nc3 Nf6 5.d3 d6 6.e4 Be7. This move is not featured in the book. I tried to proceed a la Botvinnik:

7.Nge2 0-0 8.0-0 Qe8 9.Nd5 Bd8

Now Megabase 2007 gives 7 white moves that have already been played

10.f3
10.exf5
10.Nec3
10.h3
10.Rb1
10.f4
10.Nxf6

White's score from the position after 9...Bd8 is 42%, which is not very impressive, though the sample (25 games) is not especially significant.

On first sight, I prefer 10.exf5 Bxf5 11.Ne3 following 12.d4 or 12.f4.

What do you think?
