If I recall correctly he advocates the Four Pawns Attack against the King's Indian and either the 7.Nf3 c5 8.Rb1 or 7.Bc4 Exchange against the Grunfeld (can't remember which).

Thanks everyone for your replies however I was asking what Markovich recommends for QG players when black responds with Nf6. I developed my white rep from his Queen's Gambit Point Machine article but unfortunately he did not cover other black responses such as KID, NID, Grunfeld, etc.

Thanks

While we await the wisdom of Markovich the Great and Powerful, I will recommend the Schandorff books in this thread which also seem to dovetail, for the most part, with the Great Man's recommendations in his HardChess columns.  Schandorff's repertoire books are thematic (generally geared around plans with Nge2 and possible f3 and e3-e4 buildup to fight for central domination, very methodical and Botvinnik-like).  These books have the great benefit of tricking readers into studying a few Botvinnik games in the context of studying openings.

The second Schandorff volume continues with the theme of an early f3 by going with the Dlugy line against the Benko (early f3) and the Samisch KID.  To cut your workload you can go with early f3 against Grunfeld-- in fact Schandorff mentions this in the chapter intro.

If he doesn't reply, the repertoire is as follows:

Play open positions most importantly:
1. play 1...e5 to 1.e4.  Open Spanish, 2 knights and open King's gambit (play 1.e4 e5 2.f4 d5!)the open Spanish by Quality chess books might be good to buy also Glen Flear wrote an old book on the Open.

2. Play the Tarracsh vs 1.d4 1.c4 and 1Nf3 (buy both books by Jacob Aagaard on the tarrasch defense especially the new one by quality chess books, one of the authors is a poster on here Amenestitos)

as white: play 1.e4 (though you could play 1.d4 and Blackmar Diemer gambit)  I think he would say till 1900 or 2000 level.  Play open Sicilian or Smith morra Gambit.  vs 1...e5 play Scotch 4 knights, vs French play exchange with early c4.  and caro play Panov Botvinick.  vs Alekines I would say exchange variation (though not sure what he likes) vs Pirc/Modern play Austrian attack or an Be3 line.  Andrew Greet has a good book on the second tier openings.  This is what Markovich has posted and written back to me.  He doesn't  neccesarily mind what openings per say you play as long as they are OPEN Positions.  This is his key and makes sense.  From closed positions they usually open up but open positions never close.  SO a study on open positions is paramount...  This is basically what he emailed me and what he has posted on here. SO no French!!!   Good Luck,
Zatara

If he doesn't respond himself, you might want to search for some older "Hard Chess" articles, a column he used to write.  They're quite good, though I don't know how much opening stuff is in there.  He did have an article called "The Queen's Gambit Point Machine," or something like that.

Hello Markovich, and everyone else,

Long time reader, first time poster.   Smiley

Markovich, perusing the various threads and other links I’ve managed to stumble across, I’ve developed my white rep based on your Queen’s gambit suggestions.  However, I would like to know what other openings would you recommend to complete your suggested d4 repertoire? I’ve cobbled together your suggestions for d4 d5 but haven’t found much if black responds with Nf6. Although, I did read in one of the posts that you recommend a3 against the Nimzo-Indian.

Thanks for your advice and well thought-out suggestions!
