I suppose the ...g6 variation of the Panov is not your favourite, as 3...Bg7 4.c3 cxd4 5.cxd4 d5 6.exd5 transposes (I think 6.e5 inferior). I also suppose you don't mind
If you are really desperate, you might try 3...cxd4 4.c3, transposing to the Morra Gambit, where the fianchetto Defence is not considered reliable (Black has 4...d3 though).

The book had the effect good books usually have: it made the stupids more stupid, the intelligent more intelligent and the other thousands of readers remained unchanged.

I'm afraid I don't know.  There is some discussion of the line with 3...Bg7 at:

http://www.chesspub.com/cgi-bin/yabb2/YaBB.pl?num=1146753899/60#60

and another thread was started on the 1.e4... page using the Modern move order, basically a summary of the discussion on the Dragon page (which was off-topic):

http://www.chesspub.com/cgi-bin/yabb2/YaBB.pl?num=1165884587

As for your specific question:

5.Bb5 runs into 5...a6, which is probably Black's best response.  Black will then play 6...Nc6 and develop with tempo.  I still think White holds an advantage, but Black gets a lot of easy moves here.

After 5.e5, Black has 5...Nc6 6.Qa4 Nd5, when much of the discomfort of the position has already passed.

5.Nc3 Nc6 6.Qa4 d6 7.Bg5 seems more testing...

What´s the current state of art in the line 1 e4 c5  2 Nf3 g6  3 d4 cd4 4 Qxd4 Nf6  ?

Can White gain something with 5e5, 5Bb5 or 5Nc3 ?!

Looking at recent games I´ve got the impression that black players of the hyperaccelerated dragon
have switched to 3...Bg7 instead of 3...cd4 (but then I like white after 3...Bg7 4dc5 or 4c3).

Please excuse this question, but I haven´t found anything substantial in the archives, neither here nor in the "Anti-Sicilians".
And, I apologize, personally I´m only interested from the white side: with black I prefer  the fascinating Caro-Kann,
as white I am one of these awful Bb5 players ...

Anyway, thanks for any answer
