Sorry, I misread your post earlier in the other thread in the General Chess forum.  Davies actually recommends 4.dxc3, aiming for rapid piece development.  Surprise!

Quote:
The principal line he recommends is 1.e4 Nf6 2.e5 Nd5 3.Nc3 Nxc3 4.dxc3 d6 5.Nf3.

In his words:

"Although 1.e4 Nf6 2.e5 Nd5 3.Nc3 is not a gambit as such, it is in the gambiteer spirit by aiming for free and fast development.  There are also lines in which White can sacrifice a pawn, so one hopes that the reader will not be too dismayed by the thought of short-term material equality."--Davies

I don't have the book, but I thought he was reccommending 1.e4 Nf6 2.e5 Nd5 3.Nc3 Nxc3 4.bxc3 and not 4.dxc3.

The 4.bxc3 recapture leads to more dynamic positions than 4.dxc3, so it would really surprise me if the latter was his choice for a primarily Gambit based repertoire.

Hmmm
Good question  Undecided

First - I guess u already guessed the moves "2.e5 Nd5" for us.... Although, there may not be many other reasonable alternatives leading to 3.Nc3.

Second - My guess is there may be a typo on the web site. 2.Nc3 d5 3.e5 Nfd7 4.e6!? seams like a logical gambit to include in the book.

A quite recent book on gambits by N. Davies (see Everymanchess) suggests (according to
the sketch of summary given in the everymanchess website) a gambit line
for White after 1. e4 Nf6 2. e5 Nd5 3. Nc3

I looked at all the recent books on t~he Alekhine and cannot evn guess where the gambit line
appears (do not have the book yet).

Any guesses?
