Bcrot gives 10...d5!? 11.d4! Nxe4 (as mr Kosten gives) 12.dxe5 with a slight plus for white. An interesting idea is 12.d6! also. I think that the 10...d5!? cannot stand the test of time, as 10...c5! has!!!!!

How on earth does White play 12.d6 ?  Do you mean 13.e6 ?

I'll have to look at 11.d4 more carefully; I think Tony has identified the critical line: 12.Bxe4 Nxe4 13.Rxe4 Bb7 14.d3/d4.  Not sure Black gets full compensation for the pawn--read: Black has few winning chances here--but the position seems most certainly tenable...

Well, considering that 10...c5 has been around for 120 years, 10...d5 for about two months, that is a very safe bet.  And I'm inclined to agree just because I doubt that Black has full comp after acceptance.  But who knows, maybe this really is a good idea that's been waiting to be discovered.  The Marshall itself also waited for a while, after all.

Has anyone studied this line much?  To what extent would some grasp of the Marshall be useful here?  Preparation in the Chigorin seems to go out the window for the most part; are there any interesting or useful parallels with the Marshall?

Yes, that's Notkin's conclusion, too.

A quick play-through with Fritz 10 running in the background suggests that there are plenty of improvements for both sides along the way but the key mistakes seem to have been 26.Rxa5? when 26.Qxc1 would have left White well on top if the silicon monster is to be believed, and 27.Qe1?? which pretty much loses on the spot whereas 27.Nd2 is a game.

Maxim Notkin analysed the game in today's Chess Today - an amazing game!

That's depressing. I suppose the loser would benefit sort of like the way the loser would in Sumo wrestling (which is said to be fixed at times)...I'll scratch your back today, you scratch mine later...in the dragon Cheesy

Well, judging from the number of times I've seen people arrange results in tournaments I've played, everything is possible! Angry

That's interesting, a Pole and a Russian(?) conspire to produce a loss for the latter at a Czech Tournament..Is it possible?

It all seems pretty amazing, I'm tempted to analyse it for the August update, but what if it really was all arranged beforehand? Undecided

OK, Gajewski has been a little unorthodox (Rb8 after 9.h3 as recently copied by Anand in rapid, against Topalov if I'm not mistaken), but this is way out there...

Anybody see this friggin game yet? Is this composed? And why can't white take the black's dark squared bishop on g3? Oh, it's a mess. Or maybe I'm wrong and this is all common stuff?
