13.Nf3 is said to be better.

The book had the effect good books usually have: it made the stupids more stupid, the intelligent more intelligent and the other thousands of readers remained unchanged.

Semko, 8...Ng4 just looks bad to me.  Were you thinking of a different position?

Andrew, after 8.Nb3 Ng4 Black is even fighting for the initiative, so why not grasping this opportunity?

Khalifman is  planning a new edition of the Kramnik series indeed, but it will not be soon. Besides Anand 10 which deals with the Sveshnikov from White's point of view, there will be a repertoire book for Black, but we have no contracts and schedules.

First of all we'll pay some attention to a wider audience with several instructional books - test games, basic practical endgames. It's boring for me to edit only openings!

Semko,

Thanks for sharing your latest on 8.....nc6.

I have another suggestion that you might want to look at . 6 Bg5 nc6 since 7 qd2 Qb6 and if 8 nb3 e6  leads to the million dollar question is 9 bf6 gf6 - does white have anything better than 10 f4 which would transpose into your line .

8..h6 or bd7 may be worth a look.

Can anyone give me a reference to that classic Botvinnink game where he accepted the double pawns in a Richer-Rauser

Thanks for many wonderful books. The Sharpest Sicilian has been wonderful! Sad that the PP is in trouble, but probably only temporarily. Are you planinng on new editions of Opening for White according to Kramnik or a book on the Sveshnikov?

"Finally- does the new edition deal with 6 qf3 or 6 a3- both of which were SOS opening surprises"
All these variations are covered as well, but there are no changes, compared to the original book.

1.e4 c5 2.Nf3 d6 3.d4 cxd4 4.Nxd4 Nf6 5.Nc3 a6 6.Bg5 e6 7.f4 Qb6 8.Qd2 Qxb2 9.Rb1 Qa3 10.e5 h6 [10...Nfd7 11.f5] 11.Bh4 dxe5 12.fxe5 Nfd7 13.Ne4 Qxa2 14.Rd1 Qd5 15.Qe3 Qxe5 16.Be2 Bc5 [16...Bb4+ 17.c3 Be7] 17.Bg3 Bxd4 18.Rxd4 Qa5+ 19.Rd2 0-0 20.Bd6 Nc6 21.0-0

21.0-0 why 21. ..f5?! Delchev always wants to play f5 in his "corrections". Why not untangle the light pieces and simultaneously cover the weak spot f7? 21. ... Nce5!? 22.Bxf8 (of course white needn`t to take, but we have to start with a line,eh) Nxf8 23.Nd6 [23.Nf6+ gxf6 24.Rxf6 Bd7-+] 23...b5 [23...f6!?] 24.Qxe5 Qxd2 25.Rxf7 Qg5 26.Qxg5 hxg5 27.Bf3 Rb8 28.Ra7 Bd7 29.Rxa6 Ng6 30.Ra7 Ne5 white has still compensation, but nothing more.

The older, the better - over 2200 and still rising.

Semko,
This update makes what I considered the best book available on the Najdorf even better. Almost exactly 6 months after press and already updated with some very important lines! Well done.

Thanks Semko- i wondered why Karjakin had switched to nbd7 when he used to play this line . Just worth mentioning that Short as white lost to your improved Nc6.

Finally- does the new edition deal with 6 qf3 or 6 a3- both of which were SOS opening surprises- see Vol 5 and 6.

many thanks for the update Semko! Smiley i've played 8... Nc6 with good results using only the small coverage in Georgiev's first edition, so it's great to see more new material on it!

(p.s. any chance that Sakaev will be writing anything new? The more i read his Expert's 7. Bc4 Grunfeld, the more i am in awe of his analytical powers!)

And there was me thinking that this line would take a very large amount of time to sort out!  I don't rule out an improvement in such dense analysis, but computer analysis in such a position will be, if not conclusive, at least get to the point.

I'm now feeling rather scared...! Shocked

I'd like to inform you that The Sharpest Sicilian was reprinted with two corrections/additions.
The first is a major one - Georgiev does not recommend taking on b2 anymore! Instead he gives Nc6 and this line is also much deeper considered than in the original edition.
The second addition covers the line in Ivanchuk-Topalov. The forum readers can download the new pages from here:

And on that bombshell ... !  I'm sure the Poisoned Pawn will rise again though  Undecided
