Maybe 3.Nf3 isn't so bad.   Smiley

Really I don't see the point of this move.  It might help if you give an example of Black's idea.  Otherwise people will just go on about much of a stupid move it is.   (In fact, I still don't see why it isn't.)

After the simple 3.Bd3, what next?

Fair warning:  Nakamura played this way a couple of times and so the ridiculous looking move now has a following.

Interesting.  Can you post some examples?

My first thought is, this is taking Polugaevsky-Kortchnoi 1977 (1. d4 e6 2. c4 b6 3. e4 Bb7 4. Qc2 Qh4) to absurd lengths ...

Bibs recipe indeed is the easiest way to refute stuff like this. If you want to study 2...Qh4, take five seconds to figure out why 3.g3 is bad. As Spassky once wrote in a completely different setting, if Black plays 2...Qh4, who knows what will be his third, fourth and fifth?

The title refers to the move or the question?

Answer:   protect the pawn and develop. (Nc3/Bd3, Nf3 etc) Lots of questions in the forum on odd 2nd and 3rd moves. People - dont get hung up on the word 'refutation'. Just get your pieces out.

1. e4 e6 2. d4 and now 2...Qh4!?

I've encountered this move a couple of times now. It looks like rubbish, but what's the easiest way to refute it?
