...and what if 8.Kh1 (to be able to play f3 on Bg4) ?

I found 5 games with 5.-,Nd4 in my database. Most likely there isn't any "official" theory on this. Where did you get the idea from?

Maybe this variation is a forced draw  Shocked

8.c3 Bg4! 9. Qa4+ Bd7 10.Qd1 Bg4 if now 11.Qa4+ Bd7 12.Qa5 b6! 13.Qa6 Bc8 14.Qa4+ Bd7 =  Tongue

I saw it used in a blitz game on ICC and was immediately intrigued and wondered if it was actually playable in a real game. Regarding 8.Kh1, provide some concrete analysis and I will try to comment on it.

The lines I gave thus far was meant mainly as a teaser to illustrate some of Black's potential, but Im reluctant to give away all the fruits of my analytical labor.......at least for the moment.

In the meantime I intend to test this line in Blitz games and see how it goes.

I'm still curious as to whether this line is mentioned anywhere though.

Neat.  Ok, so White can't take the Rook.  What happens on 8.e5?

Its a complicated mess but Black seems to be doing ok, and maybe more so if my analysis holds up. Two critical lines seem to be:

1. e4 e5 2. Nf3 Nc6 3. Bb5 Nf6 4. O-O Bc5 5. Nxe5 Nd4 6. Bc4 d6 7. Nxf7 Qe7 8. e5 dxe5 9. Nxe5 Bf5 10. d3 O-O-O 11. Nf7 [ Black also seems to have adequate resources aginst the alternative 11. Re1 Rhe8 12. Bd2 Nxc2! 13. Qxc2 Ng4 14. Be6+ Qxe6 15. Qxc5 Nxe5 with the idea of 16. Qxa7? Nf3+ 17. gxf3 Qg6+ 18. Kh1 Rxe1+ 19. Bxe1 Bh3 -/+ with mate to follow]   Rde8! intending 12. Nxh8? Ne2+ 13. Kh1 Ng4 14. Nd2 Qd6 15. Nf3 Bxf2 16. Nf7 Qxh2+ 17. Nxh2 Ng3 Mate

Of course we have only just begun to scratch the surface here, but I hope I have managed to at least whet your appetite with some of Black's resources in this position.

Does anyone have any official theoretical information on this line?

6.Bc4 d5 (what else?; 6.-,0-0?! 7.c3 followed by d4) 7.exd5 and I don't see how Black shall proceed here.

6.Bc4 is met by the surprising and strong d6! intending 7. Nxf7 Qe7 8. Nxh8 Bg4 with a winning attack.

Does anyone know anything about the following line:

1. e4 e5 2. Nf3 Nc6 3. Bb5 Nf6 4. O-O Bc5 5. Nxe5 Nd4 ?! or maybe !? from what little I have seen it looks quite fun, although I suspect that the calm 6.Ba4 could be quite troublesome for Black. Who knows though, perhaps if used judiciously, this extremely rare sideline could be a deadly point scorer/surprise weapon in Black's arsenal.

WHITE TO PLAY

Any thoughts?
