Petroff Boden - Blunder or Main Line

After 1.e4 e5 2.Nf3 Nf6 3.Bc4 Bc5 my old version of Fritz6 gives in its book 4.d3 as the main line.

Is this correct?  3...Bc5 looks like a blunder or at best dubious to me.  Is White asking for trouble by taking 4.Nxe5?  Does this transpose into some kind of Fried Liver or Frankenstein or Nescafe something or other?
