I've been looking at this myself, 8.f4 f5! looks like a pretty good line too - 9.Nf3 Bc5+ 10.Kh1 e4 and white's initiative dries up pretty quickly after 11.Ng5 Qf6 12.Bf7+ Ke7 13.Bd5 d6 - I play the Traxler and black's position quite resembles that line, except he's not material down (in fact a pawn up), with a monster on e4. I don't think white can dream of drumming up enough here.

The book had the effect good books usually have: it made the stupids more stupid, the intelligent more intelligent and the other thousands of readers remained unchanged.

Exactly how dodgy is the Boden-Kieseritsky Gambit? (1.e4,e5 2.Nf3,Nc6 3.Bc4,Nf3 4.Nc3 - although it can also appear in the Petroff)  Morphy played it a lot and it seems to be one of those rare gambits where White gains a couple of tempi without any easy way for Black to return the pawn with advantage.  Watson's latest opening manual suggests that its an enterprising line for White players who like to attack and isn't all that bad.  Given that I like gambits but hate it when Black can deaden them with mass exchanges and/or pawn returns, this seems like an interesting line to pull out when I'm feeling frisky.  Thoughts?
