In that 5. Nh3 White obviously aims for Nc3, Nf4, N(probably f4)-d5. One of his key ideas is to ram the f-pawn all the way to f6.  Black's most sophisticated rejoinder is 5...Ng5, but I don't think this solves all his problems.  White continues with g3, Bg2, 0-0 and f4.

5...Ng6, you mean.

OP: you should check out the first couple pages of the Budapest Ideas thread; this, for example, is mentioned there already (by Markovich).

Yeah, 5...Ng6.

As MNb has already pointed out, there are many threads on the Budapest, already and you will find many interesting ideas have already been discussed at length.  Please check these out!

Hello All:

Looking for a book covering the ...Ne4 and ...Ng4 lines.

Playing this as White and looking for a solid, positional approach. So any suggestions on lines to concentrate on in these 2 systems?

Thanks in advance,

Gerry

Yes, against 3...Ng4 play 4. e3 Ne5  5. Nh3.

Against 3...Ne4?! play 4. a3.

Hello All:

Any thoughts on the Lalic book? Did not see a mention of it in the thread. It seems the most recent book?

Appreciate you directing me to hte thread but, with my current knowledge level in the Budapest, this is way too much at the moment. I am just looking to get a few lines down as White. I could see how this thread would be great if I had more knowledge of the opening.

So thinking of getting the above book and just scanning for main ideas. Is 4.a3 a positional approach against the Faja.?

Take care,

Gerry

Have you already scrolled down a bit and worked your way through 10 pages of Budapest Ideas?

The book had the effect good books usually have: it made the stupids more stupid, the intelligent more intelligent and the other thousands of readers remained unchanged.
