Hi,
Looking for detailed analysis on this.
Recommended by Silman in old book "Winning with the Sicilian defence" (1991). See Filipovic played this and scanned through his games.
Only very brief notes in old ebook (2005), no mention in past posts here(I did check).
I have Collins', Harley's c3 books but not too much therein. Harley dated, Collins too brief (not necessarily his fault - the nature of the Chess Explained 25 game, just over 100 page beast)
Any detailed info available that anyone knows of? Any language is fine!
thank you in advance for any suggestions,
Bibs
The initial enthusiasm for 2...e5 faded fast and there does not seem to have been much recent interest in it, practically or theoretically.
The most recent books on 2 c3 are Sveshnikov's two volumes - they have appeared in Russian and even Italian (pub. Caissa Italia). Volume 1 has been translated into English but is held up at the publishers for some reason. Here's what he says about 2...e5.
"The move 2...e5?!, leading to the creation of a Ruy Lopez type of pawn structure, does not equalise either, owing to the obvious weakening of the d5 square. Modern theory has not actually come to a definite conclusion about this line yet."
His recommendation for White is: 3.Nf3 Nc6 4.Bc4 Qc7 (4...d6?! 5.d4) 5.0-0 Nf6 6.Ng5 Nd8 7.f4.
The Chessbase CD by Rogozenko is probably the best electronic source.
What's the verdict on Rogozenko's Alapin cd, and do those that have it consider it any good?
