I've bought it (as MANY books).

I find the emphasis wrong (some 9...Bd7 lines and Qc7 lines that seem unplayable to me) while skipping lightly over both the Keres and 6.Be3,( and 6.Bc4 lines). A pity, since books on the Scheveningen are sourly needed!

Greetings,

LeeRoth
Thank you for the link!  Smiley

In view of that, I'm wondering if this thread should be merged with the one which you've posted above!?

It also is a example of what I was talking about when I made my suggestion for a Library "sticky".

In terms of content it's got a pretty thorough survey of the various modern ways (without an early a6) that black can play vs white Be3/Be2 set ups, but is more of a repitoire book than anything else vs the Keres/English attack etc - it focuses exclusively on the early d5 stuff vs the English for instance. A couple of lines vs the Keres covered.

It's a good book and I think took a very sensible approach to it's content - the lines without an early a6 are much less theoretically dense than the ones with it in so they're well suited to a starting out book. Also much less well covered elsewhere.

For an overall theoretical overview I'm afraid you'd need a large number of books - and I'm not sure there is one on the main line with an early a6 in. It would be a frightening book that!

Starting out : The Scheveningen . By IM Craig Pritchett.
Any opinion on this book ? I dont know in what shape the scheveningen is today. Seems to be an interesting book.

You may have a look at this: http://www.chesspub.com/cgi-bin/yabb2/YaBB.pl?num=1128993164/9#9

Yusupov once said that “The problem with the Dutch Defence is that later in many positions the best move would be ...f5-f7” but he is surely wrong.

It's recommended although it doesn't cover everything so you will need to some updating. The author first wrote a book on this line in the 1970s !!

We had a prior thread on it.  It's a very good book, but it concentrates on the Modern Scheveningen lines.

I looked at it for a while (from a library) and had a quite favorable impression of it.  Jeremy Silman liked it:      http://www.jeremysilman.com/book_reviews_js/Starting_Out_Sicilian_Scheveningen.h... .
