I can't claim to be up on the latest details, but this 8. Bb3 line has generally been assessed as "White has compensation" for many years.  I think it was more common for a while in the '90s; recently I think it was advocated for White in a repertoire book by Sam Collins, and I think the Australian IM David Smerdon plays it.

Oh. What is the theoretical status of 9...Na5?

The usual move is 9...Na5; 9...Nb4 may be okay too.

Reply to Comment A: Thanks, edited the error

Reply to Commen B: I dont really like the line 8...dxe5 9.d5 Nd4 10.Nxd4 cxd4 11.Qxd4 The queen is very strong on d4 and I cannot play Be7 cos g7 is hanging.

Do you have a better line in mind? If you do, can you please tell me? Thanks

Comment A:  You're leaving out moves again.

Comment B:  Yes, as far as I know 8...d5 9. Nh4 is considered slightly better for White.  The most critical move is 8...de.

In the line: 1.e4 c5 2.c3 Nf6 3.e5 Nd5 4.d4 cxd4 5.cxd4 d6 6.Nf3 Nc6 7.Bc4 Nb6 8.Bb3

What should be played here? I checked my database and found out that most people play 7...d5 here. However, this line seems to be a tempo down compared to the line : 1.e4 c5 2.c3 Nf6 3.e5 Nd5 4.Nf3 Nc6 5.Bc4 Nb6 6.Bb3 d5 7.cxd4 Bf5 or 7...Bg4. Furthermore, in the line where Black is a tempo down, White can make use of this and play, after 7...d5, 8.Nh4!? This prevents both Bf5 and Bg4, and forces 8...e6 (I cannot see other ways Black can develop properly) Then after 9.Nf3, the bishop is locked inside the pawn chain.

Any comments?
