My friend and I built a full on chess table, board built into the table I mean, a few years ago in woodshop. Only took about a month of odd times working there. Turned out beautifully. We carved the legs of the table into the shape of knights.

Better prices, wider selection.  They will match any other authentic price if you find a lower one and can provide a link, or an advert.

Pieces first, then board.

Personally, I don't like buying wood sets/boards without eyeing and touching them first, but all the dealings I've had with these blokes has been 100 percent on the up and up.

I know I've made some very poor decisions recently, but I can give you my complete assurance that my work will be back to normal. I've still got the greatest enthusiasm and confidence in the mission.

I have 2 wood boards, one by Drueke (with dark squares that are brown) and the other has ebony dark squares. I have had the Drueke one 20+ years; the other 10+ years.

My advice is to select your wood chess set first, then get a board to match. Ebony pieces (black) just don't look right to me on a brown board, and vice versa.

Not sure where you live, but you can check out www.uscfsales.com or http://www.bcmchess.co.uk/wooden.html for some pictures and prices. Or you can go to a tournament. Often times there is a bookseller that will have sets and boards too. Good luck!

Greetings,

battleangel
If you go to the following site, and scroll two-thirds of the way down the page, you'll come to a section called Chess Sets, Chess Pieces, Chess Boards.

It contains several articles which you may find of interest and use in making your decision.

Read them all!

Kindest regards,

Dragan Glas

But I would avoid these...

hmm ... the more I think on the complexity of a chessboard,
... the better I like the idea that I could try to do one myself Smiley

I advise one with 32 dark and 32 light squares; the sharper the contrast the better.

Hello,

I want to buy myself a chessboard out of wood, which one is good?
I know I probably can take every chessboard there is,
but I want something a bit more exclusive Wink
but not too exclusive, no fancy gadgets, just good wood Smiley
I don't have much knowledge on chess materials. Can you recommend me something?
