Perhaps the "Buddy List" would be somewhat more popular if it was renamed the "Notify List". At least that's what's used on ICC. Even "Friends List" is probably a somewhat better name, imo.

But if nobody uses it, then the naming issue is not really a relevant one. "Buddy List" is good enough.

I did click the button, so I now have one member in my buddy list! But truth to be told I clicked quite by accident, and then spent quite a while trying to figure out how to REMOVE someone from the list, and I still haven't found that trick. Does anybody know?

Another question is whether the "buddy" in question is embarrased by my electronic embrace, or rather would consider it an insult to be removed...   Roll Eyes

I guess it's more applicable on larger forums, where you may have several hundred logged on simultaneously; it then becomes a nice way to keep track of your mates' comings and goings.

When you have members you placed on your Buddy List, they will be listed on your User CP (aka My Center) when you first click on the User CP.  On that displayed Buddy List you'll have quick access to those users... such as links to their email, PM, profiles, website; and whether or not they are online.

But, arent things like website, email & profiles already found in the buttons below each member's post? Further whether a member is online or not is already indicated on the LHS of their posts together with their user ids.  So isnt it a redundancy?

Judging by some of the threads, I would have thought an Enemy List button would be more appropriate.

I've just had a look on the YaBB site, and apparently:
"Essentially the Buddy List is a custom members list... for each user.

When you have members you placed on your Buddy List, they will be listed on your User CP (aka My Center) when you first click on the User CP.  On that displayed Buddy List you'll have quick access to those users... such as links to their email, PM, profiles, website; and whether or not they are online.  So you don't have to use the forum's main member list or scour the forum... for someone you communicate with frequently."

No idea, I noticed it seemed to appear when the software was upgraded, but what it is for I don't know. Roll Eyes
