Maybe Moro got "Bronsteined"?

Tal-Bronstein (Blitz)
1.e4 e5 2.Nf3 a6!! 3.Bb5 0-1

Hehe, I'll have to keep that in mind for anyone who plays the Rossolimo Sicilian as White  Grin

After 3...c6 4.Ba4, it looks like Black should play 4...Nf6, when White can choose between 5.0-0, 5.Nc3, 5.d3 and 5.Qe2. With best play Black should be okay, although proving it in practice is a different matter entirely.

Note that 5.d4?! Qa5! would be rather embarrassing for White.

3...c6 looks natural to me - it's a move Black very often wants to play in the Philidor in any case.

I guess Moro wanted to get to a position that was a bit like a Spanish, so he wanted his bishop over that side of the board!

Hello,

I recall that this line was mentioned in a Yearbook where Morozevich played 3.Bb5!? against the Phillidor in a blitz game against a fellow GM. Does White obtain an advantage after this move, or is Black able to fully equalise with best play? The idea is 3...Nc6 4.d4 transposing to the Steinitz Defense of the Ruy Lopez.
