I have recently been working on the 5.Qc2 line for my forthcoming book 'Play The Queen's Indian'. After quite extensive research I concluded that the pawn sac lines were too volatile and I felt it made more sense to steer clear of that minefield with 5...Bb4+. Then 6.Nbd2 leads to a position from the 5.Nbd2 line (5...Bb4 6.Qc2, in which Black is very solid) while 6.Bd2 should be met by 6...Be7 as the white bishop is slightly misplaced. Then White can choose between 7.g3, probably transposing to a Catalan, and the more aggressive 7.e4. However in both cases Black can reach fairly standard position-types, with little danger of being blown off the board as can happen in the 5...c5 6.d5 lines.
For full analysis of this, you'll have to wait for the book  Wink
However several GMs have played this way, especially Tomashevsky who has used it several times so a quick database search should provide plenty of ideas.

Aronian-Anand does not provide any solution to the pawn-sac.

The game was barely commented on in the above mentioned Chessbase-report:http://www.chessbase.com/newsdetail.asp?newsid=4482

The game was commented on the following three sites. I don`t know russian though.

1) http://www.chessdom.com/morelia-linares-2008/aronian-anand-live
2) http://chesspro.ru/chessonline/onlines/index_630.html
3) http://online.crestbook.com/morlin-08-09.htm

You don't have to subscribe to buy New In Chess Yearbooks.

The book had the effect good books usually have: it made the stupids more stupid, the intelligent more intelligent and the other thousands of readers remained unchanged.

I'm not a subscriber as I am not quite at the level where this is so critical. I hope I can still get help.

I refer you to Yearbooks 85 and 86 for a detailed discussion of the position after 10.Rd1.

How to play against 5. Qc2 in Ba6 QID?

The legendary drawback of Qc2 is that it loses touch with the d-file and makes c5 a strong response. However, looking at it more closely, it seems that White gets more than enough play for the sacrificed pawn. How do you play against Qc2 and how would you continue here?

1. d4 Nf6 2. c4 e6 3. Nf3 b6 4. g3 Ba6 5.Qc2 c5 6. d5 exd5 7. cxd5 Bb7 8. Bg2 Nxd5 9. O-O Be7 10. Rd1

Thanks in advance!
