Most emphatically I do, yes! (See the other thread.) At the moment I think 8 ...Na6 is holding up the best of these choices (9 0-0 Nc5; 9 Be3 b6!?), but pace Berdichevsky I'm not really convinced about this line for Black. I've been looking recently at 8 ...c6 9 0-0 Nbd7 and 9 ...Nfd7!?. The latter I think is quite interesting and Black's position looks very hard to break down, but total equality might be something else ...

The line in question is 1 e4 Nc6 2 Nf3 d6 3 d4 Nf6 4 d5 Nb8 5 Bd3 g6 6 c4 Bg7 7 Nc3 0-0 8 h3. Black has tried at least four moves here: 8 ...Na6, 8 ...c6, 8 ...c5
8...c5 looks like a Benoni in which Black has lost two tempi. Compare 1.d4 Nf6 2.c4 c5 3.d5 d6 4.Nc3 g6 5.e4 Bg7 6.h3 0-0 7.Nf3 and 8.Bd3. Don't you think it nice to have two extra moves for free?

The book had the effect good books usually have: it made the stupids more stupid, the intelligent more intelligent and the other thousands of readers remained unchanged.

If anyone's interested in this topic, they might like to take a look at this thread in the Daring Defences section:

I'm trying to discover more about a rare line that can be reached via at least four (and I suspect at least six!) different openings!

The line in question is 1 e4 Nc6 2 Nf3 d6 3 d4 Nf6 4 d5 Nb8 5 Bd3 g6 6 c4 Bg7 7 Nc3 0-0 8 h3. Black has tried at least four moves here: 8 ...Na6, 8 ...c6, 8 ...c5 and 8 ...e6. The second of these is perhaps the main line, recommended in his 1 ...Nc6 book by Berdichevsky, who gives 9 0-0 a6 10 Re1 b5 11 cb ab 12 dc b4! (Wirthensohn--Herzog). Here though I'd like to ask what happens after 11 Bf4.

Does anyone know of any sources discussing this line, or have views on how large White's advantage is and what Black's best plan might be?
