MNb I thought that it was really sporting of you to turn down my first draw offer so that I was able to play the queen sacrifice.

It was a really interesting game. I played six bird's Openings in the tournament. No-one played 1..e5. Whether it was because they do not trust From's Gambit or whether it was because they did not want to face the King's Gambit is a matter of speculation.

I am hopelessly addicted to the King's Gambit

Sort of GPA via the Bird

There have been other threads on the Bird-GPA connection, but I could not find a proper one to place this game. For me the main reason not to play the GPA are the French setups. So I though it a good idea to play it myself as Black, though I am not sure I would have played 4.Nc3 a6, an annoying invitation to the Paulsen-Kan-Taimanov complex. After White's fourth move I was happy to switch to a standard Anti-Closed setup. I think the flexible idea to keep the pawn on d7 for a while quite hard to meet.

I enjoyed this game, though I am also a bit disappointed with the draw. But David Flude deserved it because of his resourceful play.
