Or you could find it in a library. The relevant games are available through NICbase online.

If you write a nice letter to them, NIC may make all articles available for free to you in pdf format. Just for you though, as they may expect others to pay for the product.

Or you could just stump up the cash and buy the book.

I have a question. The two articles done by Mr. Prie have appeared in NIC yearbooks. I know the first one was actually available free through the NIC website as a pdf file. I am wondering is the second article available anywhere other than having to buy the complete NIC yearbook?
Thanks

As you can find on several places on htis forum I'm very pleased with the practical results I've obtained with the (Neo-) Prié Attack. I repeat that this may be entirely due to an inclination to punish this 'weak' move on the part of  my adversaries but I'm beginning to suspect there is something more to it. One aspect my be that the Prié delivers what it promises : no (annoying) middlegames with an isolani for instance (which in my experience is always a drawback if I have it, no matter what the theoretical verdict is.)

He examines several alternatives after 5...0-0 6.Nf3, but concludes that black's best chance is 6...c5 7.dxc5 Qa5 8.b4 Qd8. However, matters remain highly unclear here.

I think after 1.a3, a black fianchetto might be the best way of exploiting a3. When you speak about the Austrian attack (I play it against the Pirc), you say that a3 is useful, but in any main line I see a3 played by White here, it seems to be a real waste of time! Is it because you fear Nc6-b4 attacking Bd3? Or because you fear b5-b4?

I am referring to 1.e4 d6 2.d4 Nf6 3.Nc3 g6 4.f4 Bg7 5.a3!? which anticipates c5 and is surprisingly difficult to meet. Vigus covers this move very well in "The Pirc in Black and White".

What was his conclusion?

Christoph, how would you react to 1.a3 d5 2.d4 Nf6 3.Nc3 c5 4.Bg5 e6 5.e3 Nbd7 6.Nf3 a6 transposing to Game 11 (Alcaraz-Mirzoev) in Prie's latest update?

BTW, after 1.a3 Nf6 2.d4 Prie says Black's best is 2...g6! However, I suppose you would like 3.Nc3 d5 with a reversed Chigorin. Wink
(if Black goes for a Pirc instead, a3 is useful in the Austrian Attack).

I find it hard to get really enthusiastic about 2.a3 as a winning attempt but the underlying logic is quite fascinating and I believe it can be quite effective against a certain kind of players.

You can find some musings about the move at Sverre's Chess Corner. I hope the link http://sverreschesscorner.blogspot.com/search/label/Prie will open the relevant posts.

Following the moves 1.d4 d5, what do you think of the move 2.a3!?, which was covered in Yearbooks 78 and 79. I was wondering if it would be effective in practice - Prie has certainly used this move to good effect.
