I would think that 1. e4 e5 2. Nf3 Nc6 3. Nc3 Nf6 4. Bc4 Nxe4 5. Bxf7+ is considered clearly better for Black by all theory books, but also isn't very similar to "our" line.

I'd rather have Black after 1.e4 c5 2.Nf3 Nc6 3.Bc4 Nf6 4.Nc3 Nxe4 5.Bxf7+ Kxf7 6.Nxe4 e6 7.d4 cxd4 8.Nxd4 d5. Black has the centrepawns and the pair of bishops. The inconvenience of Kf7 is only temporarily. Compare 1.e4 e5 2.Nf3 Nc6 3.Nc3 Nf6 4.Bc4 Nxe4 5.Bxf7+ Kxf7 which is considered =+ by all theory books.
Not that 4...e6 is bad, or 3...e6.

The book had the effect good books usually have: it made the stupids more stupid, the intelligent more intelligent and the other thousands of readers remained unchanged.

I would think that 5. e5 (which I doubt White should be able to get away with) Ng4 6. Qe2 d6 and 5. 0-0 d5 must be quite all right for Black, but I would be more interested in 5. e5 Ng4 6. Qe2 Qc7 and 5. 0-0 a6.  I would think Black is the one playing for an advantage.

A few more thoughts here ...

ah, of course 5.Bxf7 looks better Smiley

OK, after the natural 4...e6 White could play the equally natural 5.0-0 waiting for 5...d6 6.d4 and if 5...d5 6.exd5 exd5 7.Bb5 followed by d2-d4, (if 7...d4 then 8.Re1+ Be7 9.Ne5!? dxc3 10.Bxc6+ bxc6 11.Nxc6 Qb6 12.Rxe7+ Kf8 13.Qf3 with a complicated position)

I only said 4...d6 because I thought otherwise White could play e5, and 4...e6 5.e5 Ng4 6.Qe2 could be looked into, maybe 6...d6 7.exd6 Bxd6 8.0-0 0-0 9.d3 seems about equal

On 4. Nf3 Nxe4 I presume White would play 5. Bxf7+ Kxf7 6. Nxe4 with the idea of d4.  Also after the natural 4...e6, 5. d4 looks dubious.

7...d3 indeed looks good, but why did White play 4.f3? 4.d3 looks far more natural following up in GPA style with f4.

Another idea is 4.Nf3 aiming for 4...d6 5.d4 cxd4 6.Nxd4 with a Sozin unfortunately Black has 4...Nxe4! 5.Nxe4 d5 and he seems to be OK. But maybe 4.Ne2 is interesting as after 4...Nxe4 5.Nxe4 d5 6.N2c3 Black's queen has to stay in the centre to protect the c5 pawn.

I haven't seen 3.Bc4 here before but it doesn't seem so bad (no worse than plenty of other anti-Sicilians which see plently of action)

This Anti-Sicilian is basically an anti-theory move usually played by players who are either completely ignorant of opening theory (ie beginners) or are scared of opening theory (I think you know the type).

Play 3...a6 4.a4 e6 and treat the position like a Scheviningen with ...d6, ...Nf6, ...Be7 and ...0-0. The difference between this and the Scheviningen is that here your opponent can't put much pressure on your position and you can leisurely decide upon the best way to generate winning chances for oneself.

Whenever I face a move such as 3.Bc4, I usually become very confident that I will win the game... Wink

It might be mentioned that playing that way could give White the possibility of transposing to a decent Sozin.

By the way, by "7...d3 looks quite decent" I really meant that it's definitely better for Black.

At first sight I don't like 6...d4, activating White's bishop again.
