I must say that this stuff looks better for White to me, and I guess 15 ...bc runs into the same reply? Any more thoughts on this, drkodos?

Looking at this line recently, I found myself not liking Vigorito's line where White castles queenside and wondered if there are alternatives for Black. After 6 Bg5 h6 7 Bd2 0-0 8 a3 Bc3 9 Bc3, how about 9 ...a5, meeting 10 e4 with 10 ...Qe7 or 10 ...a4 and allowing e4-e5, as successfully tried in the games Ippolito--Kelson, Varga--Gyorgos and Williams--Quinn? Does Vigorito say anything abut this, or anyone know of anything seriously wrong with it?

Okay Vigorito thinks White is better in this middlegame because of the two bishops but he doesn't consider your 14 ... c5 move. This is the situation:

* * * * * * * *
* * * * * * * *
* * * * * * * *
* * * * * * * *
* * * * * * * *
* * * * * * * *
* * * * * * * *
* * * * * * * *
*

I don't know what you have in mind here but I couldn't resist analysing a bit. After 15. dxc6 (e.p.) Bf5!? 16. Bd3 Qg5+ 17. Be3 Qxg2 18. Rhg1 Qf3 19. Bxh6 things looks messy for Black. How does your own analysis run, mr drkodos?

You should get Vigorito's Challenging the Nimzo-Indian, it includes a chapter on the Zurich. I always thought this line difficult to crack and annoying to White but Vigorito has some interesting ideas how to combat it.

Perhaps the lines need an update.  I have found the 5.Nf3 d6 6.Bg5 h6 7.Bd2 lines to be less good for White that I had gleaned from the book. I think equality, perhaps.  6. ...0-0 8.a3 Bxc3  9.Bxc3 Qe7

In this line Vigorito suggests 10. e4 but I have found that this gives Black excellent play after 10. ...e5 11. d5 Nd4 12. Nxd4 (Bxd4!?) exd4 13.Bxd4 Ne4  14.0-0-0 c5!

What is the current fashion White is using to maintain opening advantage v the Zurich?    Sad   I don't know.   Undecided

I know I've made some very poor decisions recently, but I can give you my complete assurance that my work will be back to normal. I've still got the greatest enthusiasm and confidence in the mission.

Is  the Zurich variation in the Nimzo indian theoretically any good? Statistics show black scoring quite poorly, even when both sides are equally rated, what could be the reason for this?

I asked this question in another part of the forum regarding something unrelated but I thought it would be a good idea to pose the same question here among all Nimzo folks.
