Classic opening books of the 1970s (complete with dust jackets -- though they published some softbound ones too), such as "The King's Indian Defence" by Barden, Hartston and Keene, "The Pirc Defence" by Keene and Botterill and "The Benoni" by Hartston.

I am not sure the Kasparov-series is my ideal for "look", but I appreciate that our layout needs to be great too.

But you have a bestseller chess book which will be tresured (like many from Quliaty), then it's the layout which gives final grade.

Best book should have best layout and a must is hardback.

Remember, hardback only.

Just like Kasparov "My great predecessors" series: a top notch layout quality with fine hardback.

That's the book.

So I will only be 975 euros out of pocket on that one Wink.

The problem with hardback editions is actually that they are so expensive to transport.

Method one is not to cover full games - this cuts some space.

Method two is by having more pages.

Method three is to stop worrying about money, because this is not the way to riches, but it is a very inspiring challenge.

Well this is a news!!!!!!

Now you can't escape.

But Quality covered Open Sicilians in 200-300 pages, how will then your book look like, if we take into account:

1. Ruy Lopez
2. Winaver French
3. Full Caro Kann
4. Pirc/Modern
5. etc

Don't worry - cry!

I will do 1.e4. However, I know how big a task it will be, so I have not started to fantasize about publishing dates for that one!

And yes, it will be with the full swing taking on Najdorf and all the other bad boys.

I can see that it is not quite fair to put this in the 1.e4 section  Cool

The offer to play in Liverpool was simply too poor. I guess it is different if you are English and have more prizes to play for. I am not complaining about it, we have our own championship, it was just not attractive for me to play this time.

Thanks man, but what is with us  Cry Cry Cry Cry Cry Cry Cry

I and my colleagues around the world are demanding 1.e4!!!

When  and who will take 1.e4 for us???????????????

I'm a bit disappointed.

Best move will be the last, even if it will published.

So here is what blurb says about first two volumes:

Tired of getting bad positions? Play the main lines!

Many guides suggest the smart choice in the opening is to rely on surprise. Play an unusual line: your opponent may never have seen it. The reality is that thousands of rational people play chess, and they generally try to play good moves, including in the opening. Thus, rare lines are rare for a reason. Look around the playing hall and tell me that the top players are merely dedicated followers of fashion. The main lines are the best chessplayers’ best guess at the best moves. The intelligent answer is to do the work, play the main lines, and reap the rewards.

Several volumes are in preparation. The first two cover 1.d4 and 1.c4:

I

Israeli GM Boris Avrukh charts a course towards an advantage with 1.d4. Avrukh is a world-class player who now explains the repertoire that elevated him to the top 50 in the world. The focus is on the main lines with a kingside fianchetto, such as the Catalan as used by Kramnik, and the g3-King’s Indian. Avrukh has consulted every relevant source and refuted much published analysis. Avrukh’s repertoire is not based on cheap tricks, it will last a lifetime.

II

GM Mihail Marin is arguably the world’s foremost chess author. He is an experienced exponent of the English Opening, and now shares his understanding of how to play this line. An English repertoire can be plagued by transpositions, and many previous authors have taken the easy way out, sidestepping the awkward moves by referring the reader to other manuals, but Marin supplies a complete repertoire that is strong enough for grandmaster competition.

I am not sure where I should put this, but as some of you have asked about this project in the Marin BTOG discussions, I put it here. I hope it is not imprudent.
