11...Qc8 lead to a transposition to your mainline after 13...Qxc3. In both games White played 16.Rb4 and after 16...Qd5 (probably bether than 16...Qxa2) Conquest-Watson, 1989, proceed with 17.O-O when in Al-Modiahki-Motylev, 2005, White played 17.Qg4.

The games are attached.

A comment I seem to recall by David Levy (a Scottish IM who wrote a significant Dragon book of the era) regarding 11...Qc8:  "(Italian IM) Tatai prefers White, (English GM) Keene prefers Black, and I wouldn't want to play the position with either colour."

11...Qa5 is hardly a novelty; it's the old book move, upon which 11...Qc8 was supposed to be an improvement, around 30 years ago.

In Mega Database 2007 I found 3! games with Qa5 , one win ,one loss and one draw. I see nothing wrong witth Qa5, especially not in these games. The oldest game where played 1964. The other games where played in  1988 and 1999. Qc8 has been played 23 times, first played 1974 and the youngest  2006.

But you are right, maybee Qc8 is better, I will have a look at this tomorrow. First sight seems completly equal according to Rybka 3.

Lets discuss this line. any comments? This variantio creates a more complicated position than 6 __ Nc6 that can become realy boring.

1. e4 c5 2. Nf3 d6 3. d4 cxd4 4. Nxd4 Nf6
5. Nc3 g6 6. f4 {playing for a cheap trap} Bg7 {we dont we enter it!} 7. e5 (7.
Bb5+ Bd7 8. e5 Nh5 {transposes}) 7... Nh5 {setting up a cheap trap in return} (
7... dxe5 8. fxe5 Nh5 (8... Ng4 9. Bb5+) 9. Bb5+ Bd7 10. g4 {and white wins})
8. Bb5+ Bd7 9. e6 (9. exd6 O-O 10. O-O exd6 11. Bxd7 Nxd7 12. g4) (9. g4 Nxf4 {
and black is much better} 10. exd6 (10. Bxf4 dxe5 11. Be3 exd4 12. Bxd4 O-O 13.
Bxg7 Kxg7 14. Qd4+ e5 15. Qxe5+ f6 16. Qd5 Qe7+ 17. Kf2 Bc6 18. Bxc6 Nxc6 {
and black must win}) 10... e5 11. Bxf4 O-O 12. Bxd7 Nxd7 13. Qf3 exd4 14. Nd5
Re8+ 15. Kf1 Ne5 {etc}) 9... fxe6 10. Nxe6 Bxc3+ 11. bxc3 Qa5 {my novelty. I
have tried  this in a few blitz games. The results where a few wins, some
draws and some loses on time a pawn or piece up} 12. Bxd7+ (12. Bd2 Nc6 13.
Bxc6 Bxc6 14. O-O Bxg2 15. c4 Qf5 16. Re1 Bc6 17. Nc7+ Kd7 18. Nxa8 Rxa8 {
and Rybka claims that black is much better}) 12... Kxd7 13. Ng5 Qxc3+ 14. Bd2
Qc4 15. Rb1 b6 16. Rb3 Nc6 17. Rc3 Qxa2 18. Qg4+ e6 19. O-O Nf6 *

EDIT after Qa5 Bd2 Nc6, white can also play c4 and after Qb6 Qe2! white can force a draw
