In important matches they usually save their winning tries for the White pieces, and play conservatively as Black.  At least, they do that until the match situation turns bad, at which time, I concede, they are unlikely to play the Petroff.

Well, Kramnik needed at win in a WC tournament (last year?) to have a chance to catch up Anand who whas leeeding. But instead of playing for a win he played Petroff as usual and took a short draw (dont rember against who) and Anand won the tournament and became WC.

Because black isn't playing the Petroff when he absolutely needs a win! There are quite a few better choices under such circumstances Smiley

Hi there,

In the Line e4-e5 Nf3-Nf6 Nxe5-d6 Nf3-Nxe4 d4-d5 Bd3-Nc6 00-Be7 Re1

Main Line seems to be Bg4, but what to do for Black , when White doesnt want to win ? He plays Bxe4-dxe4 Rxe4-Bxf3 Qxf3-Nxd4 with totaly equal game. So why is this MAinline ?
