Thx CMA,

The first part of the download, will hopefully be available together with the january edition of the e4-e5 section. This will provide a reasonable (up to date) coverage of the Modern.

As it was I updated and expanded the coverage of c34 and c37-c39 first.
Hence the second part has been made available before the first part.
Sorry for the confusion.

Thx for sharing this game. I suppose you were not "desperate for a win" and judged the resulting complications from 21...h4 22.e6,h3 23.RXf7+,Kg8 as very unclear.

Micawber, I just got your very useful "Forum_KG_2" download: what a great job you have done!
However, I could not find "Forum_KG_1" download, as I am particularly interested in the Modern Defense 2...exf; 3 Nf3, d5 which some experts have called the solidest reply to the KG.
                     Thanks, CMA

I mistakenly thought that the draw would guarantee me a place in the next stage of a fixed openings tournament. I missed out by half a point.

I use the final position to test computer programs. They also struggle.

The attached game probably confuses the issue even further. I would rather try and win with the King's gambit than face the stodge of the Berlin Wall or the Petroff. But that is a matter of personal taste. The incredibly messy positions that can arise in the King's gambit would not suit many chess players.

Indeed 7...Bg7 is my second worry from White's perspective immediately after 5...d6. The big problem is not to maintain equality - imo 6.Bc4 is completely correct - but to generate winning chances.

Looking at the analyses in over the Horizon, it wouldnt surprise me, that
in the future we may see more games with   Bc4,d5 exd5 Bg7 iso ...Bd6.
Note that our Forummember David Flude made some valuable contributions against the .....Bd6 line.

It's treated in Play the Open games by John Emms page 67. He recommends the normal d5 exd5 Bd6. Check the book for furhter details.
This book is a little bit old, so maybe the theory state has evolved ...

1.e4 e5 2.f4 exf4 3.Nf3 g5 4.h4 g4 5.Ne5 Nf6 6.Bc4!?

is there a published refutation because most games continue with 6.d4 d6 of which the main lines are known to be difficult for white???

No. These days most KGeers prefer 6.Bc4 indeed.

There was discussion on this line in chesscafe's "Over the horizons" recently.
