I think the old main line after 12.g3 is 12... c6 as mentioned before and seems quite forced as shows this game:

[Event "Liechtenstein op 12th"]
[Site "Liechtenstein"]
[Date "1994.??.??"]
[Round "5"]
[White "Donaldson, John W"]
[Black "Arakhamia Grant, Ketevan"]
[Result "1/2-1/2"]
[ECO "E97"]
[WhiteElo "2425"]
[BlackElo "2485"]
[PlyCount "43"]
[EventDate "1994.05.??"]
[EventType "swiss"]
[EventRounds "9"]
[EventCountry "LIE"]
[Source "ChessBase"]
[SourceDate "1996.11.15"]

1. Nf3 Nf6 2. c4 g6 3. Nc3 Bg7 4. e4 d6 5. d4 O-O 6. Be2 e5 7. O-O Nc6 8. d5
Ne7 9. b4 Nh5 10. g3 f5 11. Ng5 Nf6 12. f3 c6 13. Be3 h6 14. Ne6 Bxe6 15. dxe6
Ne8 16. Qb3 Nc7 17. Rad1 Kh7 18. c5 d5 19. exd5 Nexd5 20. Bc4 Nxe3 21. Rxd8
Rfxd8 22. Re1 1/2-1/2

In those 90's days this one was a "Dangerous Weapon" and gave me a lot of points as white (only Van Welly was playing this line and was almost unknown for the masses at club level).

I don't know if this is too worrying.

24. Ne8 seems to be the new move here, as everything up to that was at least detailed in Gallagher's book. That said, instead of the move 29. Qh2, which seems to give White some time to unravel, what about just 29...Nf6 right away, the point being 30. Bxe5 Rxe2+! 31. Qxe2 Qg5+, with a nice position for Black? White shouldn't take, but even after something like 30. Re1 Ng4 31. Qxc5 Qxe4, Black is my choice. I don't know about you guys. White's king is on d2, Black's pieces are very actively placed, White's can barely move, and material is equal. Let me know if I missed something.  Grin

I really dont see it. 29...Nf6 30. Re1 Ng4 31.Qd3 and white is still much better. The knight is tied to g4 for the moment and there isnt much constructive he can do. White just consolidates and starts grabbing pawns on the q-side.

Well I think Black has no problems in this line... after 31.Qd3 Black should just push his h-pawn forward and don't care about queenside pawns. When the pawn is on h2, white is probably forced to give a perpetual check. For example: 31...h4 32.Qd7+ Kh6 33.Qxb7 h3 34.Bc1 h2 35.Kc3+ g5 36.Bxg4 Qxg4 and sooner or later either side will give perpetual check.

26. Qb3 looks interesting

26...Qf4+ 27. Kd1 Qxe4 28. Qc4 Rxe2 29. Qxe2 Qd4+ 30. Qd2 Qg4+ 31. Kc2 Qc8+ 32. Kb1 Qxe8 33. a4 Qd7 34. d6 Nf5 35. Ba3 Nd4 with a mess! After analyzing it for a while, it seems as though White has some problems in this position.

Black has a draw. One way is instead of 24...h5:

24...d5! 25. cxd5 Rg2 26. Nxg7 Nxd5 27. exd5 Qf4+ 28. Kc2 Qc4+ 29. Kd2 Qf4+

Although Van Wely won convincingly against Radjabov, I don't think it buries the entire 10.g3 variation just yet. Given that 12...f4 is the main line for Black, it certainly puts the ball firmly back in Black's court.

Is there anything wrong with 12...c6 instead?

I was playing through this game, where Van Wely takes on Radjabov in his old love the g3 bayonet. It seems his move 20 may cast serious doubt on this line for black:

[Event "38th Olympiad"]
[Site "Dresden GER"]
[Date "2008.11.15"]
[Round "3"]
[White "Van Wely,L"]
[Black "Radjabov,T"]
[Result "1-0"]

So another thing to worry about for you KIDders Wink
