In an olympiade game today Vallejo Pons-Azarov,

white tried 1.e4 c5 2.Nf3 d6 3.d4 cd4: 4.Nd4: Nf6 5.Nc3 g6 6.Be3 Bg7 7.f3 0-0 8.Qd2 Nc6 9.g4!? Be6 10.Ne6: fe6: 11.0-0-0 Ne5 12.Be2 Rc8 13.Nb5 Qd7 14.Na7:!

The last move is a novelty, but it seems strong and in the game black never had enough compensation: 14. ... Ra8 15.Kb1 b5 16.g5 Nh5 17.Nb5: Nf3: 18.Qb4 Ne5 19.Rhf1 Rfc8 20.Qb3 Kh8 21.Bd4 Rab8 22.a4 with a clear advantage for white, but of course the game still has to be won.

Although I play the dragon almost exclusively for more than 10 years now, I know close to nothing about the 9.g4-variation.
I faced 9.g4 three times in tournament games, but that was at a time when I played the Bd7,Rc8,Ne5-system against 9.0-0-0 which just transposed after 9.g4 Bd7 10.0-0-0.

So is this idea a threat to 9. ... Be6 (which is considered the most reliable black answer to 9.g4)?
