Apart from the great picture of the cover, does anyone know if this book is worth reading?  I have Mikhail Gurevich's excellent monograph on the Smyslov_Fan0 "Kasparov System" from way back in 1991, and have not found a good reason to update it.

Is this the book that will finally replace Gurevich's analysis (much of which also appeared in ECO E12 at about the same time by the same author)?

I like this book very much. I think it offers excellent insight and coverage to the Petrosian variation. Would have been even nicer if they also gave a few complete games like in the "---est Sicilian" series, but that is just a minor reservation.

I have not been able to find any online reviews. However, my copy is on the way. I hope to have it shortly....considering since it is six weeks now that I have ordered it.  Sad

Would it be possible using this book to create a full white repertoire of relatively agressive lines?  I'm looking for something a bit more tactical than the classical (4.e3) lines I have been playing.

Just got a copy of the book. Still didn't read it - just checked a few lines that arose in my games before - but it seems to be quite thorough in coverage. It looks like the authors tried to write a more or less complete treatise on the system, not taking any sides and covering most major lines, just like the Soviet opening monographs of the past Smiley

ghenghisclown, it does cover g6 fianchetto - 12 pages on 4...Bb7 5.Nc3 g6 and another 12 pages on 4...Bb7 5.Nc3 d5 6.cxd5 Nxd5 7.e3 g6.

Thanks ddt, can't wait!

...noticed at least one funny blooper in this book - just look at the cover picture:

If you don't see anything wrong, ask yourself a question - is that indeed a starting position of Petrosian system? Hint: check "c" pawn  Grin

Looks very good. Eventhough it's not a a repertoire book, I wonder if the book will present interesting ideas on tackling Black's fianchetto [ I meant g6 by Black in the Petrosian]- which looks very solid to me.

By the way, why hasn't anybody on here talked about Greet's book yet?

I see Chess Stars has a new book about to come out:

The Petrosian System Against the QID by Alexander Beliavsky and Adrian Mikhalchishin. I will be getting a copy.
