What's the current status on the 4.g3 Ba6 5.b3 b5 line? Does it still hold up?

I don't think this is so much a bust of one of his critical lines, as he simply didn't pay much attention to this particular line.

10...Rc8 looks very close to equal. A lot of the lines I've checked generally peter out to equality with some patient defense by black.

By the way, is one of Greet's mainlines in a bit of trouble? I saw two corr games from 2009 that seem to be a bit problematic. Greet has dismissed 11.Ne5 in a short note (see below), but it seems by far better than that. One player (Mironov - Peters, ICCF 2009) just resigned after 15.Rfd1, the other game continued a bit longer:

Well done Mark!  You spotted my error... the correct move was 15. Rd1 in V. Eingorn-G. Vescovi so it does make sense after all.  Thanks.

Overall it still looks like the position is equal (particularly if White avoids the dubious 17. Ne5?!

There appears to be an obvious typo on page 125 which says "He dares not take on b5 (referring to White's 18. Qxb5) due to 18... Qxe5."

Are you sure the rook is on e1 and not on d1 ? In that case the remark makes a lot more sense.

The book had the effect good books usually have: it made the stupids more stupid, the intelligent more intelligent and the other thousands of readers remained unchanged.

Andrew, thanks for your terrific book on the QID.  I was studying the Petrosian Variation and reached this position following:

1. d4 e6 2. c4 Nf6 3. Nf3 b6 4. a3 Ba6!? 5. e3 d5 6. Nbd2 Be7 7. Qa4+!? c6 8. cxd5 Bxf1 9. Nxf1 b5 10. Qb3 Qxd5 11. Qd3 Nbd7 12. N1d2 O-O 13. O-O Nc5 14. Qe2 Nce4 15. Re1 Rfd8! 16. Nxe4 Nxe4 17. Ne5?! c5! 18. Qxb5

* * * * * * * *
* * * * * * * *
* * * * * * * *
* * * * * * * *

There appears to be an obvious typo on page 125 which says "He dares not take on b5 (referring to White's 18. Qxb5) due to 18... Qxe5."

In looking at various plans for Black it seems like developing Black's remaining rook with 18... Rac8 (preventing 19. Qc6 or Nc6) is best.  Overall the position seems roughly level after 19. Nf3 Rd7; 20. Qe2 Rdc7.  Are there any other better plans for Black?

Thanks.

As is, I have already gone ahead and ordered it anyway. Time to finally take the leap from the Bogo to the antillian1. I am sure I won't regret it.

I certainly would say that the book is very good, thoroughly analysed, the repetoire is well considered, all the latest fashionable lines (e.g. those various recently discovered Qc2+d5 gambits) are covered with interesting suggestions what to do about them, longer text explanations when they are needed and variations when it's tactical.

One can never know how the analyses and recommendations will hold up, but I certainly have the impression that Greet has done everything you can expect to ensure they will.

Ay plan for eBook version of this ?

I emailed Everyman and asked them this. They said they likely would be, but they could not say when.

By the way, I cannot seem to find any reviews on this book yet. Anyone know of any online?

Yes, that´s true but sometimes I sell the ones I do not like too  Grin
I do not have other books from A. Greet, but I believe that this one is his best. Looking at a glance, it is a repertoire book in the same way of the five stars Nimzo book of E. Dearing. I think both books will give a nice, solid and interesting repertoire for Black players. It´s the kind of book dificult to give opinions without reading cover to cover and this is now my task.  Smiley
