I've just uploaded the 2017 games download to Gold Plus, and updated the other downloads - I was interested to see that the player with the most ChessPub annotated games in 2017, and by far, was ... Maxime Vachier Lagrave.
Please let me know if there are any problems.  Smiley

so in say Chessbase you would go to the game:

White: Tarrasch 3...Be7 4.Ngf3
Black: Intro

which is a ChessPub Guide.

Would the free 'ChessBase Reader 2013' work - I have CB12 here but I assume the free Reader would work? If it did that might help user without the paid Chessbase?

Yes, the free CB reader (or previous CB Light) works just fine, as do all the CB engines (Fritz, say).

P.S. Glenn Flear suggested Chess Publishing a while back, it just took me a while to subscribe, my son is already getting a lot out of it.

P.S. It would seem that the playable eBooks would be the easiest to use but these don't appear to always be updated

It depends on whether they are 'new style' (updated regularly) or 'old style' (not). We like them but they haven't proved particularly popular - probably because you need Windows and ChessBase to use them. Sad
I find using the ChessPub Guides + games easier than using the PDF files + games myself.

Hi Tony,

So you miss out the pdf completely? Just to make sure I am understanding, so in say Chessbase you would go to the game:

White: Tarrasch 3...Be7 4.Ngf3
Black: Intro

which is a ChessPub Guide.

Would the free 'ChessBase Reader 2013' work - I have CB12 here but I assume the free Reader would work? If it did that might help user without the paid Chessbase?

if you use the one stop download area you miss about 10% of the commented games?

The one-stop download doesn't include the ChessPub Guides, which are used to make the PDF files, just the annotated games.

Thanks for explaining the gap - my son tends to flick between the pdf and the 'game' in Chessbase as he finds that most comfortable*. So it's a good thing I went to the game archives.

i.e. He was looking at the French (Tarrasch) eBook and we discovered if you searched for surname Tarrash in Chessbase all the games were there.

* I assume this makes sense

P.S. It would seem that the playable eBooks would be the easiest to use but these don't appear to always be updated i.e. Tarrash playable eBook was last updated 16th September 2004?

Hi

I went to the GoldPlus -> one stop download area, downloaded all the games and created a single database

16/01/2014  23:17         6,615,935 chesspuba.cbv
16/01/2014  23:17        11,921,629 chesspubb.cbv
16/01/2014  23:17         6,110,372 chesspubc.cbv
16/01/2014  23:17         7,083,828 chesspubd.cbv
16/01/2014  23:17         5,332,919 chesspube.cbv
               5 File(s)     37,064,683 bytes

This had 19,589 games (slightly less than I expected)?

So I tried downloading the games via the PGN Games Archive

16/01/2014  23:22         4,011,614 pgn_1-d4-d5.zip
16/01/2014  23:19         2,705,882 pgn_1-e4-e5.zip
16/01/2014  23:21         3,005,216 pgn_1-e4.zip
16/01/2014  23:21         2,163,072 pgn_Anti-Sicilians.zip
16/01/2014  23:22         2,525,632 pgn_d-Pawn-Specials.zip
16/01/2014  23:22         3,356,672 pgn_Daring-Defences.zip
16/01/2014  23:20         2,206,336 pgn_Dragons.zip
16/01/2014  23:22         2,591,278 pgn_Flank-Openings.zip
16/01/2014  23:19         2,589,591 pgn_French.zip
16/01/2014  23:22         2,846,240 pgn_Kings-Indian.zip
16/01/2014  23:22         2,413,082 pgn_Nimzo-Benoni.zip
16/01/2014  23:21         3,564,437 pgn_Open-Sicilians.zip
              12 File(s)     33,979,052 bytes

This totalled 21,366 games  (21,335 after de-duping in CB12 (exact match names/tournament/moves)).

It looks like the one stop download is missing some games?
