obviously 22.Re2 is a typo. What did you mean instead of this?

Quite right, I honestly don't know what I was thinking when I posted that, perhaps the hour was late. Let me just add that after the seemingly crazy 22.bxc7?! the reply 22...Bh3, though aesthetically pleasing, may in fact turn out better for White. Luckily the prosaic 22...Rxc7! should suffice for Black.

we have only one game in Mega 2008, Informants 1-102. But there isn't mentioned the move you played.

You found it over the board or?

Thanks for the compliment.

I wish I could say I found the powerful 21...Nh4 over the board but alas it was mostly home preparation, inspired in large part by the Charbonneau game alluded to earlier.

To be honest I was slightly disappointed as my opponent didn't allow me to show anything new, losing in the same way as Charbonneau's opponent did, only with the exception of three extra moves.

Many players are still relying heavily on the Khaliman books, but theory marches on. Instead of the very human but losing 22.Re1, he must try something like 22.Ra2, 22.Re2 or 22.Bd3 but in all cases Black gets a very strong attack that is extremely difficult to cope with over the board. My opponent was visibly shaken during and after the game and understandably so, even in the post mortem he remained shell shocked and expressed disbelief that the position after 23...Rg7 was simply lost.

The Bayonet/Kramink attack these days is played by many players looking for a quiet and safe life, happily applying queenside pressure while having to worry little about the brutal mating attacks so typical of the Mar del Plata variation. Nevertheless as was seen, White is never totally immune from attack in these Classical mainlines.

Indeed a major reason why I fell in love with KID is that one, it often does not feel like you are playing the Black pieces and two When white is successful it usually means that he wins a couple of pawns on the Queenside but when Black is successful it usually means Check Mate.  Wink

Exactly. He raises his level 400 rating points against whoever he plays. You know that guy on Playchess named "Raffael?" Well, maybe I better not say anything else.... Lips Sealed

He's an IM, and he was referring to the game Roussel Roozman - Charbonneau, Montreal 2008, which he pointed out earlier.

But maybe I shouldn't be answering for him.  So, never mind.

Welcome Mr. Golubev,

I just picked up your King's Indian book and I'm really enjoying it.  I'm just wondering how you can write for both Chess Today and Chess Publishing at the same time.  Are you going to republish the analysis of King's Indian games from Chess Today?

Normally not.

First of all, there is not much King's Indian in Chess Today. Maybe one or two annotated (not necessarily be me) games per month.

I'm also excited about this section.
As the Markos book has already had a mention in the opening theory section could we have some ideas/opinion/clarification on the h3 lines as mentioned elsewhere in the forum.

Markos' alternative line offered with g3 seems to be floundering a little and whilst I offered Enders an idea of my own I would be very appreciative of Golubevs and other members ideas in this line.

The excitment continues  Smiley

For one of my first corr. games I followed "Understanding the KI" and played a knight-sac given as interesting in the book. I think (no I am sure...) I was lost at some point, but much to my surprise my opp missed the kill!

On behalf of myself and all the forum posters, I just wanted to extend a warm welcome.

I very much look forward to your coverage on the KID site, and it is my fervent wish that your stay be long and fruitful.

I predict exciting times ahead.

Here is one of my very recent efforts played on the 03/02/09:

I entitle it: Opening for White According to Kramnik Busted or perhaps more piquantly Hoisted by one's own Bayonet  Wink

Fide Master vs TopNotch - National Championship 1st Qualifier 2009

1.d4 Nf6 2.c4 g6 3.Nc3 Bg7 4.e4 d6 5.Nf3 0-0 6.Be2 e5 7.0-0 Nc6 8.d5 Ne7 9.b4 Ne8 10.c5 f5 11.Nd2 Nf6 12.f3 f4 13.Nc4 g5 14.Ba3 Ng6 15.b5 dxc5 16.Bxc5 Rf7 17.a4 h5 18.a5 g4 19.b6 g3 20.Kh1 Bf8!? 21.Bg1 Nh4!![Thanks Charbonneau] 22.Re1 Nxg2!! 23.Kxg2 Rg7 24.Nxe5 gxh2+ 25.Kh1 Nxe4!! 26.Ng4 Ng3+ 27.Kxh2 Qh4+ 28.Kg2 Qh1+ Resigns 0-1 Its mate in two.
