My personal favourite is John Cox's book, although I have heard that Dembo's repertoire book is of a similarly high quality.

Some of Gallagher's ideas are still good even today, although most of the book would be too old; Alburt/Dzindzichashvili's coverage does not prepare Black properly for these variations; Martin's DVD is supposed to be good, although the aforementioned books probably offer more detailed coverage.

Finally, I have Rizzitano's book, which is good in some lines but not others, e.g. his main recommendation in the London loses by force to a well-known trap. Fortunately he offers a solid backup line that avoids the trap and equalises.

How does's Rizzitano's main recommendation in the London lose by force to a well-known trap?

Is there a site or link to see the contents and index for Rizzitano's How to beat d4 book? I'd like to see the contents and index before deciding to purchase.

The Dembo, Cox and Rizzitano books are all excellent. However, if you want the lowdown on the entire d-pawn specials complex then Eric Prie's analysis in ChessPub is the only place to go. He consistently overturns established ideas and orthodoxies with every update.

I have to admit, I have little interest in this d-pawn special stuff for my own repertoire, but I always have a look at what Prie says in his section, he has a very deep understanding of all the move-order subtleties. Agree with others the Prie stuff is light-years ahead of any of the books mentioned, which are next to useless really for this kind of stuff.

I play uncommon d-pawns and doing so for a long time. I have gone through all the books written for black. I must admit, at the end of the day - ERIC PRIE IS THE BEST ! He refuted Veresov and is provinf London inncocent now. Hope he only covers white side for Tromp !

So, go through d-pawn special section and you will be ready !

It depends on what you play.  Dembo assumes you want to play a KID or a Gruenfeld.  Cox I believe, although I'm less familiar with his work, pretty well assumes that you want to play a Nizmo.  Rizzitano of course assumes you want to play a QGA.

All three works are of excellent quality.

Personally I would never spend money for anything by Alburt or Dzindzi.  Maybe I'm mistaken in that prejudice, but there it is.

Of these, I have only read Rizzitano and Cox.  Rizzitano is all right and Cox is great.  I will in particular point out:
- It is written his typically excellent style - conversational without losing rigor
- He handles both 1 ...d5 and 1 ...Nf6 lines
- He is very sensitive to move order tricks and doesn't gloss over early deviations by White

It depends on what defence you use against 1.d4.  If you're playing 1.d5 then Prie here on Chesspub gives you better coverage than anyone.

Best Anti D Pawn Specials Book/Disc ?

Which do you think offers the best Anti d pawn special lines. I am not so worried about how they tie in with other openings I am mainly  interested in how good the lines are against the "specials", as what I find on playchess at about 2050 level is mainly either 1e4 or a DPS so It is more important to have good line vs DPS than d4,c4 lines.

The choices  I can think of are

Gallagher on anti KID,
Dembo on Anti KID and Grun
Cox
Martins'  Chessbase DVD,  and his Foxy openings Video
Alburt and Dzindi's  Repertoire for black
Rizzitano's

Or does any one know of any others?
