This variation appears equal for Black - his main idea is to break in the centre with ...c5. After 6...e6 7.bc4 bc4 8.Bc4 Nf6 
Vitiugov-Sakaev, Khanty-Mansiysk 2007 and Bacrot-Khenkin, Tegernsee 2007 show how to equalise with Black.

'The Queen's Gambit Accepted, 3rd edition' by Sakaev/Semkov is an essential reference if you want to play this line frequently as Black. The only disadvantage of 3...a6 is that it can be difficult to win against only slightly lower-rated players. This also applies for a few other variations of the QGA though, e.g. 3...Nf6 4.e3 e6 5.Bc4 c5 6.0-0 a6 7.dc5.

Hi all,
Thanks for reading!  What is the reputation of 1.d4 d5 2.c4 dxc4 3. Nf3 a6 4.e3 b5 5.a4 Bb7 6.bb3 e6!  They call this the herberditz line of the Queens Gambit accepted.
