1. d4 Nf6 2. c4 c5 3. d5 b5 4. axb6 a6 5. f3?!

So I only just heard of this... the idea is simple white wants to play e4. But really the positions that arise seem wicked from the games i've looked at! So my question is this really still played? The latest game I could find was from 2007! Is it any good besides being used as a hat trick? What are the critical lines? Clearly 5... axb4 but is it better to leave the a/b tension awhile?
